My game backlog is stressing me out. How pathetic is this? I need to do something about it, but I'm not sure what. I probably have over 100 games on my shelf that I've never even touched; I tried making a list of just the ones I'd really like to play through someday, and even that turned out to be 34 games deep. Too many! Who has time for this crap

Don't sell off the non-AAA stuff unless you know it's something that you're not going to totally dig. There's plenty of non A-list games that are totally sex (Earth Defense Force 2, Psi Ops, Headhunter Redemption, Warship Gunner 2, Sub Rebellion, etc) that you'd totally miss out on if you didn't give 'em a shot.
Long games though, yea. :( 8-10 hours is totally perfect for a game for me, though 10-15 years ago I didn't have a problem with plowing through a 40-50 hour epic. Hell, 4-5 years ago I didn't even have that much trouble with it, though I certainly didn't do it very often.
I'm really surprised how well I'm handling playing Tales of the Abyss. My next RPG won't be nearly as long though, that's for sure. I think Jade Empire is supposed to be about as long as Knights of the Old Republic, right? I pick that one!
Get off your ass and start playing you some MGS4, especially if you've already played and loved MGS3 and Portable Ops. That encyclopedia that you can download for MGS4 is hella neat, too ( ... )

I'd just say don't play games for too long every day? The way I play games is like how I go to the gym or study Japanese... do it almost every day but only for 40 min - 1 hour. I was able to get through a lot of games this year just by playing an hour a day before going to bed.

This year was kind of mediocre for "big" games. Dead Space is solid but unoriginal, Mirror's Edge is original but has serious problems, the Ubi Prince of Persia sucked, LBP was a good idea hampered by a terrible level distribution system, etc.
Vesperia is the first JRPG I've completely finished since like ... FFX-2. FF12, I guess, though that was hardly a JRPG.
My favorite games of the year were all indie or downloadable titles - Rez HD, Pac-Man CE, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Castle Crashers, Everyday Shooter. Plus some IF and 5-minute mini-indies on the computer. I think that a lot of the top talent in the industry is actually moving in that direction - they like the freedom of getting back to a small team, small budget, and fast-focused game creation and iteration.
I also played a lot of WoW, of course. :P
