» Flair: every little thing is gonna be all right ;; Pasithea’s presence casts a calmness over the general public. The calm, however, can be exacerbated into a general feeling of euphoria after an extended period of time. The longer she stays, the stronger the results of her flair. Passing her on the street, for example, will cause you nothing more than to feel less worried about the upcoming midterms and ten minutes after she’s gone, the feeling of worry will return. Spend five straight hours with her, however, and you could end up dancing on a tabletop in your underwear singing the Kazakhstani national anthem (Kazakhstan, greatest country in the wooorld~). Even longer than that, and this could result in severe hallucinations.
» Flair Type: Continuous
» Fitting in: Unemployed at the moment…because the AM who decides all things big and small has probably decided that she’s too stoned to hold a real job.
» Weakness: Becoming mortal has affected Pasithea much more than it has the other gods (seemingly). Since she is now confined and defined by the limitations of her mortal body, she is physically weaker due to the all the mind-altering substances she’s consumed as a goddess. She’s physically frail and unable to exert too much effort (not that she wants to). It makes for a lot of inconvenience on her part.
Pasithea is also relatively weak-willed around her immediate family. She’s a bit of a pushover when it comes to her parents and her husband. She can be overprotective, though, especially of her husband’s privacy and quiet.
Finally, Pasithea’s got a whole “lack of focus” thing now that she’s a mortal. Her hallucinations oftentimes take control of her. She shows all the tell-tale signs of a drug dependent - even if she’s not really taking drugs. It’s as if these have been drilled into her system. She goes into fits of hallucinatory episodes or she goes into moments of simply passing out on the couch with her eyes open. It’s not something she can necessarily control.
» History: Nonnus writes in the Dionysiaca that Pasithea was the daughter of Dionysus and Hera. How exactly this unholy union happened is not clear or explicitly described in the annals of Greek mythology but Pasithea is the only one of the Graces with such parentage. She is considered one of the youngest of the Graces.
Just like the rest of the Graces, she was an attendant of Aphrodite. She was present during the weaving contest between Aphrodite and Athena. In fact, she “made the spindle run round” (Nonnus, Dionysiaca).
During the Trojan War, Hypnos, god of sleep, was requested by Hera to put Zeus to sleep so that she could set the wheels of the Greek victory in motion. In payment for this, Hera promised him Pasithea (whom he had, apparently, desired for a while now). Hypnos did as Hera asked and was rewarded with Pasithea, who did not seem to have any problems with this exchange whatsoever. While it does not seem that she loved Hypnos as much as he loved her in the beginning, the fact that she stayed with him proves that she learned to return the affection. Her children with Hypnos are said to be the Onerii - Morpheus, Ikelos and Phantasos.
This interpretation of Pasithea has it so that Hypnos was her first (and, at this point, only) lover.
[tl;dr: I took Pasithea from the point when she was still nursing the Onerii.]
» Personality: Pasithea does not like causing a scene and would prefer to let things play out as they will as opposed to getting in the middle of the fray. She only gets involved when requested (or demanded to). She is perfectly content otherwise to sit and watch as the carnage goes on. One thing she can’t stand, though, is when people say things about her parents and will lash out at the offender. Something else that irks her, too, is when people tell her she was forced into marriage with Hypnos or if anyone questions her love for her husband. She’s also painfully protective of her Hypnos.
While not necessarily spelled out in mythology, it can be assumed that Pasithea is passive-aggressive. I mean if you allow your mother to give you away as a thank-you present, you can’t really be all that assertive. She’s naturally submissive and obedient, especially to her immediate family.
She is not particularly ambitious. She’s relatively simplistic and enjoys the simple things in life. She appreciates the little things and it’s the small gestures that really get to her. She’s a very tender sort of person, though she is not exactly the mothering type as she is prone to fits of negligence. She does try to be a good mother and a good wife but it’s not like she can exactly control herself.
She’s very jealous, however. While she wouldn’t really ever admit it to Hypnos for fear of causing him any sort of upset, if Hypnos were to sleep with another woman, she’d burn with violent envy. While a pacifist on normal occasions, she could kill for this reason. She’s also a little paranoid about not being good enough for Hypnos even if he’d been the one who had pursued her.
The last important bit of information about Pasithea is that since she’s become mortal, she’s lost control of her hallucinatory-related powers and now she sees visions everywhere. All of them are harmless and most of them are not even worth attention. However, sometimes, especially when she’s alone or upset, the visions take on a scarier turn. Pasithea perpetually teeters on the brink of full-blown madness.
She can’t sleep with the closet door open. Closets are the pathways of the Boogeyman.
