It really wasn’t Luhan’s fault that he was put in Slytherin, at least that was what he told himself. Not everything was perfect and the Sorting Hat had just made a mistake that was all. Sure ten minutes before the Sorting he had tripped some skinny kid with glasses, but he was eleven and that was fun!
And okay, yeah, he enjoyed pulling pranks on his fellow students. Sometimes they were silly ones but there had been the occasional voice swap that lasted for at least twenty four hours. It was pretty fun to watch Kris hiss like a snake whenever he tried to speak. That lost their house thirty points but it was worth it.
But he still didn’t understand why he was put into what was known as the most cunning house in the school. He was nice to everyone (except Hufflepuff, but let’s be honest, who liked Hufflepuff anyways?), he made good grades (minus his Muggle Studies class because he felt it wasn’t needed to be a great wizard) and he was nice to animals (even snakes…).
“Because you’re an asshole.” Kris lowered his Potions book on his chest and raised a perfectly manicured eyebrow his direction. “And I happen to like a couple people from Hufflepuff. Suho helps me out in Potions and I play Quidditch with one of them. You don’t make good grades in Muggle Studies because you spend the entire period arguing with the Professor over whether half-bloods should be kicked out of Hogwarts and erased from the history. And I’m still pissed about the snake incident.” His glare promised a more than adequate revenge sometime in the near future.
Luhan gulped and turned away to Sehun but was shot down by one well-aimed palm to the chest.
“I think you’re an asshole, too. Go bug the Gryffindor’s. I think Chen has a couple more points he can lose before he gets a detention.”
He sighed and kicked his feet up on the coffee table. “You guys just don’t appreciate my humor. It’s not devious, it’s just spirited!”
Sehun snorted and pushed his feet away so he could move past. “I’m going to my room to study. Please have this out of your system by the time I get back.”
---
He probably should have followed Sehun’s example and did some homework, but when Luhan felt these itches he couldn’t do anything until they were scratched. And he had already waited so long that his entire body buzzed with the need to do something evil. No. He shook his head. Not evil. Just… Cheeky?
“Nope.” Chen met him at the entrance to the Gryffindor house and shook his head. “You got that look in your eyes and the last time you had that I ended up losing 16 points and I had detention for a week.”
“Come on Ch-“
“Suho wants to be Head Boy next term and he said that what I do reflects on him. I’m pretty sure that meant I need to hang out with new friends.”
Luhan snarled at his former best friend and spun away to find someone else to drag kicking and screaming with him into something messy and dirty and fun.
He met Xiumin out on the grounds and clapped his hands excitedly. Xiumin was well known around the school for being daring. Once he had jumped off the highest peak in the school with only an umbrella and a half-torn piece of paper with a spell that Luhan had no idea would actually work.
“You’re incorrigible.” Xiumin’s eyes sparkled as he followed Luhan off the grounds and into the woods. “What are you planning this time?”
“Right now?” Luhan tilted his head to the side in though. “Right now I want to get back at Kris for saying all that rude stuff to me. We need a plan.”
Xiumin sunk down into the soft moss and leaned against a fallen tree. He pulled a silver flask out of his pocket with a sly grin. “This should help loosen up the thinking process.”
By the time they made it through the entire flask and Luhan had listed all fifty-eight things he hated the most about Kris Wu, they had a half-thought out plan that included a Quidditch game, a good lice spell that Luhan swore would work better than the flea spell they had put on Chanyeol a few weeks earlier, and a fire spell that would put a little extra heat under the Quidditch captain’s backside.
Unfortunately, Luhan forgot that the itch sometimes had to be scratched a few times for it to be eased.
---
“Alright you little shit.” Kris slammed him against the wall with one hand, the other wrist deep in his pants as he scratched red furrows into his flesh. “Counter-spell me. Now.”
Luhan tried to put an innocent look on his face, but they both knew it was for show. “I’m awfully sorry, but I seem to have misplaced it?”
Kris’s eye twitched as he stared him down. Luhan wondered if maybe he had gone too far this time with his joke. The murderous look on his friend’s face didn’t look like he would ever find this a laughing moment.
“I’m going to give you twenty seconds to get these goddammed bugs off my dick before I throw you buck ass naked outside and lock the door.”
“I really don’t have one!” Luhan pleaded in horror. He could just see those slutty girls from Gryffindor chasing him through the halls and he would die, he would just die if that happened.
Twenty-five seconds later he found himself on the other side of the Slytherin door with a spell that prevented him from entering their house and he could just hear Kris cackling through the door.
“I hope those bugs crawl up your ass!” He screamed as loud as he could, not even caring that there was a crowd gathering around him in the hallway. “You’re going to get it, Kris Wu!”
“Looks like you’re the one that got it.” Suho smirked wickedly at him as he knocked politely on the door. “I’m here to help you study your Potions, Kris.”
Kris cracked the door open, growl rumbling his chest as he glared at Luhan standing in the middle of the hallway with his hands covering his nether regions. “Go find somewhere warm you brat. You’re not allowed back in for twelve hours.” He slammed the door again in his face.
With a barely restrained scream of anger he pushed the onlookers out of his way and headed towards the Astronomy tower where he knew there would be silence and no one around.
“Excuse me?”
Fucking fuck, Luhan hated his life.
“Get out or I swear I will end you.” Luhan put his hands on his hips and hissed at the boy staring wide-eyed at him from the window.
The unknown boy narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms across his chest. “I was here first. I think that means I get dibs.”
Luhan wondered if there was hidden cameras in the tower and if he would be caught for tossing the other right over the side. Surely they had insurance for these types of mishaps.
The stranger’s eyes slid down and Luhan realized he had uncovered himself in his anger. “Raise your eyes!” He screeched, jumping backwards into the shadows.
The laugh the boy gave him was soft and teasing. “Do you want my robe?” He shrugged it off and threw it towards the corner where Luhan was crouched in a panic. “Wanna tell me why you’re naked?”
“My housemates are assholes? You give a guy one dose of a bugs and he acts like you cut his balls off.” Luhan slipped the robe on, grimacing at the gold trim because of course it was a Hufflepuff who was saving his ass. He gave the inside an instinctual sniff. It smelled like sugar and warmth and okay, maybe having something to cover him during the cold night was a good idea. This student wasn’t bad to look at and he might have smelled so good that Luhan wanted to bury himself into the fabric and roll around in it for a few days.
“Kris was pretty pissed when he left the game earlier.” The boy’s dark eyes crinkled in the corner as he smiled. “You need to learn when you’ve gone too far.”
Luhan froze, face pressed against the sleeve of his robe. “You know who I am?”
“Mmhmm.” Thick lips curled up in a kittenish grin when he realized he had actually shocked a Slytherin into silence. “You obviously don’t pay attention to the Quidditch games you attend every week.”
“The games? That I attend… Every week?” Luhan was confused. Damn Kris for throwing him out and making him come up here and why was this asshole making him all flustered?
With an eye roll, the boy pushed up from the wall and headed towards the door, shoulder bumping into Luhan as he passed. “Goodnight Luhan. Make sure you have my robe back during breakfast tomorrow. I don’t want to get points taken off for forgetting it.”
Luhan watched him, his eyebrows still furrowed in thought. Surely he’d remember eyes that looked straight through him and a smile that made his stomach clench.
The itch burned inside of him.
---
“Alright, come in.” Kris looked at the pathetic face of his housemate and opened the door wide enough for him to enter. The spell he had put on it immediately bounced Luhan backwards and onto the floor, the robe flapping open and showing off the lack of his attire.
Kris guffawed loudly, his lips pulled back from his teeth and eyes scrunched up tightly as he leaned over and slapped hands on his knees. “Okay, okay, now you’re forgiven. Chen, please tell me you got that.”
Chen jumped up from behind a potted plant and waved the camera in his hands. “Oh yeah, I got it. Not sure anyone will ever want to see it, but it’s there.”
The completely done with it all look Luhan gave them had them both erupting into laughter again and it took a good four minutes before Kris could undo the spell and let Luhan back into the House.
“So, you stole some poor Hufflepuff’s robe.” Kris clicked his tongue and shook his head. “You better give that back before the Head Boy finds out and docks you both points.”
“That’d be nice and all,” Luhan picked annoyingly at the yellow and black material. “If I knew who he was.”
Kris sighed and poured a cloud of talcum down the front of his uniform pants. “Suho undid the spell.” He explained to Luhan’s raised eyebrow. “But I still hurt from scratching so hard.” He motioned towards the robe Luhan held over his arm as they headed towards the Great Hall to eat. “Where’d you find someone dumb enough to let you steal their robe?”
“I didn’t steal it.” Luhan pouted. “He offered it to me.”
That caught his companion’s attention. “Someone actually willingly gave you something to cover up with?” Chen was the one with the incredulously raised eyebrow this time. “And they just offered it out of the goodness of their own heart?”
Luhan nodded, eyes scanning the Hall for an underdressed member at Hufflepuff’s table. “He acted like he knew me, but I haven’t seen him before. He told me Kris was mad after the game.”
Kris’s eyes raised in horror. “Oh fuck, Luhan. No, no, please don’t tell me that you came across K-“
“There he is!” Luhan pointed to the end of the table where a trio of boys sat quietly and nibbled on their breakfast. “He’s friends with Suho. That must be how he knows me.” Luhan winked at Kris and Chen. “I knew Suho was checking me out when I changed in front of him last week.”
“No Luhan.” Kris reached weakly for him but Luhan was already heading towards the floppy dark hair and bronzed skin that he recognized from last night. “That’s not…” He trailed off when he realized Luhan couldn’t even hear him anymore.
“Bet you thought I wouldn’t show up. Hmm?” Luhan slapped the robe down on the table and grinned triumphantly at the surprised faces of two boys and the amused expression of the other. “Never let it be said that Luhan mistreated a Hufflepuff. No matter how much they probably deserve it. No offense, Suho.” He threw in as an afterthought.
Suho snorted into his mug. “Sure.”
“You could have at least washed it.” The gentle voice chastised him as he slipped it on over his shoulders and done up the button. “I’m going to smell like a Slytherin all day.”
The unexpected jolt that sentence sent through Luhan’s body had him stilling. He gulped and wondered if others would be able to smell someone else on him, too. He’d only spent the last eight hours wrapped in his clothing.
“S-Sorry.” He mentally slapped himself for becoming flustered once again under the intense stare and he had to take a few steps back to stay in control. “Thanks. I’m gonna… Just…” He pointed behind him and stumbled as he headed towards the Slytherin table where Kris and Sehun were watching him with matching smirks.
“Looks like that meek little Hufflepuff kitty finally made our Luhan lose his attitude.” Sehun turned towards his tray and bit back a laugh. “I’d hate to see what would happen if Kris kicked you out naked again.”
“He’d probably come back covered in scratches and bite marks.”
Luhan whimpered and slammed his head against the table. He really didn’t deserve to be in this evil house.
---
Chen hissed and pulled Luhan’s hand off his arm where nail marks were already dug deep into his skin. “Calm down before you rip my flesh off. What’s got into you lately?”
Luhan ignored him, eyes still scanning the stands for a familiar set of eyes. The mysterious boy had to be here, he had pretty much just laid the hint in his lap last week.
The referee’s released the balls with loud fanfare from the stands and Luhan quickly realized that maybe he had been searching the wrong area.
“Chen!” He grabbed ahold of Chen’s arm and pulled him closer. “Who are all the players on Kris’s team?”
The glint in his best friend’s eyes already told him all he needed to know. “Why? Is there one you’re curious about?”
He jerked him and clashed their foreheads together. “You know who he is don’t you, you little shit. Where is he?”
With a small laugh Chen pointed to the end of the field. “He’s the Keeper, which you would know if you ever paid attention at these games instead of pulling pranks on everyone who sits around us.”
They both glanced around at the nearly empty section of bleachers they were sitting in and grimaced.
“What’s his name?” He murmured, eyes glued to the wide smile on the Keeper’s face as he defended his goals from the opposite team.
“Kai.” Chen nudged him with his shoulder playfully. “Kitty cat’s name is Kai.”
Luhan chuckled at the repeated references to a cat because he could see the feline intensity on Kai’s face and the sleek way he moved his body was almost unnatural.
“What are you thinking, Luhan? You’re not going to do something stupid with him, are you? Suho’s pretty fond of the kid and I really don’t want to get into any more trouble because of you. He already told me that we can’t hang out anymore if you get caught doing something and I’m within 200 feet of you.”
That was a good question. Luhan wasn’t sure what he wanted from the other just yet. All he knew was that the itch was so strong that he could feel the taste of it in the back of his throat, and when Kai turned his head to the left and looked straight at him for what was longer than could be considered coincidence, well, it tasted like a lot like sugar.
---
Luhan waited until the game was over and everyone had gone back to their own Houses to slip out of his bed. He didn’t catch Kris’s cracked eyes as he tiptoed past him towards the door. If he had he might have stammered through some excuse about needing some fresh air or wanting to see the moonlight, but thankfully he was spared that embarrassment.
Just as he expected, Kai was alone in the Astronomy Tower, his eyes peering into the large telescope in the corner.
“The stars are beautiful tonight.” He spun the telescope in Luhan’s direction and gave him a nod. “You can look if you want.”
Luhan’s throat felt suddenly dry and he wondered just what the hell he had been thinking sneaking out in the middle of the night to come up here.
“Did you enjoy the game?” Kai sat back against the wall and stretched his legs out in front of him. “I saw you paying more attention to it than you normally do.”
“I didn’t know you liked me.” Luhan blurted out, covering his mouth in shock at the blunt announcement. “I mean, no one ever pointed you out to me.”
Kai shrugged, not seeming to care in the least. “I don’t really make it a point to tell people that I have a crush on a Slytherin. The only person I told was Suho and I’m pretty sure he told Kris because he always goes out of his way to inform me where you’ll be sitting at each game.” He finally looked up at Luhan and smirked. “Would it have changed things if you had known?”
He nodded, falling to his knees beside the other. His hand somehow ended up fisted in the ugly gold material around his robe and as he pulled him forward he had a fleeting thought that yes, that would have changed everything.
---
“Not again, Luhan!” Chen looked around him in fright, just knowing that Suho was going to pop out at any moment and see him and Luhan cavorting together.
Luhan held a piece of paper in his hands that probably contained some kind of rambling spell that would of course backfire and turn their hair green or give them both frog feet and Chen wanted nothing to do with it.
“Chill out. I’ve already done it and it’s not a bad one.” He suddenly grinned wickedly at him. “I’m going to enjoy it at least.”
Chen’s lips curled in disgust. “Is this a sex thing, because I really don’t-“ He cut off when he saw Kai stalking towards them from across the Great Hall, fury written all over his face. “Oh fuck me…”
“No.” Luhan looked admiringly at his work of cat ears flattened aggressively against his boyfriend’s head and a long black tail swishing angrily out of the back of Kai’s pants. “Pretty sure I’m going to be fucking him tonight.”
