My letting agent just called; my landlady wants to sell the house I'm living in so they wanted permission to have people come in for viewings. Guess I'm going to have to find somewhere else to live? I've got at least two months' notice and I'm not convinced she's going to find a buyer (tiny house, no garden, no parking), but still, I may have to ( Read more... )

Well, they're not doing anything funky legally speaking. Tenancy agreements here tend to be for six months and then after that they're on a rolling basis where I can give a month's notice, the landlord has to give two months'. Not really a bad thing in general, it's a lot more flexible than the year at a time I had in Michigan, but a bit of an annoyance right now.

I knew they'd tried to sell the house before (since I kept getting flyers from random estate agents saying 'we notice your house went on the market recently, we can sell it for you!') but didn't get a buyer because of the size/parking issue. Guess they want to have another go.

Hope you've got enough time to find something else. I'm on the other side of this right now, where I have to sell my house AND find a new place to live, probably within the next 2 months as well. Stress!

I suspect most things will sell as of January, when George Osborne starts basically donating 25% of the purchase price from out of our taxes.
