On the down side, our 17 (going on 18) year old cat "Pixel" was not been doing well. For the last few weeks, she hasn't been eating or drinking nearly enough to stay healthy and has been gradually loosing weight.
We took her to the vet for "hydration" on Wednesday, and she picked-up a bit, but she's still not taking in enough. We've started to ocassionally feed her canned food, but she only really goes for it about half the time.
Fortunately, we had a good friend who stopped by twice a day to look after her for the two days (Friday night thru Sunday morning) while we attended Convergence, but after he told us that she had only eaten a few bites for supper Friday night, I drove back to the house (about an hour each way) at about 1am Saturday to give her an extra feeding. Not part of the original plan for the weekend, but very satisfying to see her dig into her food when I gave it to her.
Apparently, both normal Saturday feedings went ok, so I'm guessing that, Friday night, the friend wasn't part of "the routine" and Pixel just got distracted the first time he fed her. (She does seem more easily distracted lately and when her routine is interrupted, she sometimes has trouble getting back to whatever she was trying to do.)
She seems to be doing better tonight, but we know this is just a temporary reprieve. It's hard when a loved-one starts to decline ... be they human or pet.
