Why are Books so Darn Expensive?!?!

Jan 06, 2010 19:01

I just spent over three hundred and forty dollars on books for this semester. THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY. This price does not make me happy.  Rather, it makes me want to cry. Ugh, I hate not having money. I'll probably end up dropping choral union simply so I don't have to pay the $20.00 fee that goes with it to buy the music. I need that money for ( Read more... )

Eek! That makes me dread college. I hate spending massive amounts of money on things like textbooks that I'm only going to use for a class. Was there any way to get them used?

I saw A Christmas Carol in 3D and I think it was around $7 for a matinee. But it's animated, so that may be why it's less.
I really, really want to see The Princess and the Frog. It looks so amazing! I think I'll drag someone to see it with me for my birthday, if it's still out.

My brain creates personal canon for every fandom I'm in. I wish I could just write it all down. It would make great fic. You should write some Billy/Cricket vignettes, that way you wouldn't have to go into too much detail :)

Yeah, the spending money part isn't fun. I shop around for the cheapest prices I can find. So I *did* save some money. However ... I don't like spending more than ... 20-something dollars at a time. I am extremely cheap.

Perhaps. Or maybe it depends on the theater? Also, the one I went to had recently been renovated, so maybe it was a way to pay for said renovations? But YES! See it! It's ... classic Disney. It's gorgeous, the songs are fabulous, and it had me misty-eyed, if not teary multiple times. :D I got the soundtrack for Christmas, so I've been jamming to it whenever I drive anywhere. It's quite fantastic.

I'm curious about your personal canons for fandoms, especially if you have one for SK. I wonder how/if it matches with mine at all. I've been puzzling out some short stuff for them (Billy/Cricket, that is), and have begun to associate the song 'Fireflies' by Owl City with them.

I can't wait to see it! I love classic Disney. I tried to have a marathon the other day, but our VCR broke and I only own two classic Disney movies on DVD (Beauty & the Beast and Sleeping Beauty), so it didn't work out too well as a "marathon," but it renewed my love for Disney :)

I could see both Billy and Cricket liking a quirky song like "Fireflies." That's really cute. As far as my personal canon for SK, I think Lady Lana is going to become a big star and eventually Sammy will have to live in LA with her. But I don't think it'll change Sammy much in terms of personality, because she's a pretty steadfast type-of-girl. I do think being closer to her mom will do the both of them a world of good.

I know I have more to say on the subject of personal canon, but my mind has gone blank right now...

That's a shame. :( We don't have a working VHS either, so no Mulan, no Nightmare Before Christmas, no Toy Story ... it's a shame. Hopefully we'll be able to get an inexpensive one at some point. They should be cheaper now, with all that newfangled DVD and Blueray nonsense that's been coming out.

That's an interesting theory. I can see that happening ... particularly if she gets into a romantic/drama genre film. And, certainly, she ought to build a better relationship with her mom. 'Course that'll have to come from both ends.
