Yeah, I avoid ship wars, too. But I still like to talk about the STORIES, and I find that even a lot of die-hard shippers do, too, once they get going. But arguing fanfic? That's just plain silly.
I know I've been guilty of attempting to be neutral before--it doesn't really work out, especially in discussions so subjective as shipping. I just learned a loooong time ago in Harry Potter fandom that there's really nothing to do at ALL with arguments concerning shipping, and it's half the reason I stay out of a lot of fandoms which I'm potentially interested in. It's stupid and territorial and accomplishes nothing but adding strife :(
