After my bitter rant about the Govt's evil legislation, I went and had a look at today's paper. And found that Senator Fielding (seriously, you cannot trust anyone from a party that has the word "family" in it) had a last minute change of heart and allowed the anti- student union legislation to pass. When i was at uni, there were the usual complaints about the compulsory fees which went to the Students' Association. But i never heard any complaints from anyone - apart from myself - about the compulsory funding of the Sports Union, which i hardly ever used myself, and when i did, found i had to pay fees to use . . . . funding groups to defend one's rights are bad, funding groups to promote the contemporary Opiate of the Masses is good. :-P

Yeah - sporting facilities was all that Barnaby Joyce could talk about (the least important thing) and when he finally found the spine to cross the floor, he was comprehensively gazumped by his own party and Howard. Seriously, Oz is becoming a scary place and the fracas on the beach today was the sort of terrible thing that Howard has let loose now.

Don't worry about replying to that last e-mail I sent you about this very subject. With what you've outlined, the situation that will most likely develop is even worse than I'd imagined. As for Fielding; the Family First Party really concern me. Their policies are unbelievably simplistic and intolerant (in my opinion). I was horrified that they won as many seats as they did in the election. Howard must be rubbing his hands with glee ( ... )
