So I realized that I haven't really updated about what's going on in my life in a while.
As the semester came to a close, it was a sad time of saying goodbye to friends. Especially some who won't be back except for some visits, like
noisrevni. But, we threw her a nice little going away party where we watched her present: Snakes On A Train! Yeah, you read that right. Train, not plane. Some of you may remember I posted a link to the trailer some time over the summer I think it was...whenever I first heard about it. But, if you don't remember, check it out:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0843873/trailers . You're forewarned of the gore, but if you can stand that, try to find this movie with a bunch of friends...it's hilariously awful.
I stayed an extra night at Goucher and went to the cookie party at
stephdray and
adamdray's house. Good times seeing friends and eating free cookies. :-)
On the first Monday of winter break, my mom, brother, and I went up to NJ because he had some interviews. The first was in South NJ (the 2nd in North NJ), so we drove there, dropped him off, and hung out at the mall nearby. I got new shoes, which I desperately needed as my old ones were falling apart and covered in paint spots. After he was done we came back, picked him up, and drove north, meeting up with
jeisen for dinner. From there we went to my oldest friend's house. He and I were born on the same day, and became friends basically from a couple days old, as our parents were already friends. This time was weird, though. The last time I was at his house was right before 11th grade, and we both changed a lot since then. I saw him at a concert in late October of 2005, but we didn't talk for more than a couple minutes. We've also only kept up on occasion online. A tad different from say 5 years ago or so when we'd talk on the phone or online a couple times a week. Also, his family's been having issues which he's just kinda bottling up and refuses to talk about, so every time I'd start a conversation (about just about anything) it'd get about 2-3 sentences and then die. We seemed to have the best connection (akin to our old one) when I first got there and when I was leaving. On the plus side, I finally got to see Thank You For Smoking, which was a very good movie.
Back home, I had to help out with sorting through stuff from our synagogue as it has merged with another one and we've got to get all our stuff out of the old building, which a church has bought. It was really sad to walk around and see everything which I've come to take for granted as there for the past 8+ years, gone, or laid out on tables in the auditorium for people to come and spend a few dollars on. I worked there from 11:30 PM-3:30 AM, just my dad an I, and then came in the next day for an hour or so. He still hasn't been able to clean out his office because he's been too busy cleaning out everything else. It makes me wonder where the other people are who could lend a hand, especially the ones who pushed so hard for this merger. There are a few who've helped...but only a few, and none of them would've stayed until 3:30 at which point I told him we should go home. He probably would've stayed all night...especially if I hadn't been there 'cause the work would've been doubled for him.
Saturday, the 30th I went down to 30th St., met up with Goucherites, then up to Jenkintown and met up with more. :-) We went to IHOP and then to the Paisley Haze Quintet's concert at the Fig Café which is a hookah bar a few blocks away from the IHOP. It was cool, 'cause I got to hang out with high school friends and Goucher friends together. Yay. We went back to
corman842's house for the night, and then the next day drove up to
ornery_onion's house. Much fun was had at his New Year's Eve party, which we were all dressed up for. And, he proposed to
lunathecat, which I knew was going to happen (best friends/roommates tend to talk about these things and all). The ring is as gorgeous in person as the picture was when I helped him choose it. So I'm really glad everything went well. Now only another 3 years or so until the wedding. ;-) Definitely the best New Year's I've ever had. She drove me back to the train station on Tuesday, which was nice 'cause we got to talk one on one which hasn't happened much.
Then back home we spent a lot of time shopping and finally moving into the apartment near the new synagogue which we'll have to do for basically every Shabbat and holiday. None of us are too happy about it, but such is life. We spent this past Shabbat there, our first. It was...interesting. I don't think any of us are going to be changing our opinion so quickly about this situation, but again...such is life. At least it's some job security for the moment.
Last night we went to Mandy Patinkin's concert in Philadelphia. The show was amazing, and apparently, he was fighting off a flu or illness of some sort...not that anyone could tell. We waited for him by the stage door after the show and so got to talk to him and his wife for a few minutes. He remembered my dad and greeted him with a big "Bobby!" and a hug. It was cute. ;-) He didn't actually recognize Dan and myself, which isn't too surprising...we both look pretty different from the last time he saw us. His wife was talking to me more (people wanted his autograph and pictures, afterall) and offered me her phone number so that I could call and talk to her about acting or playwriting. She said she'd be more than happy to help me out and talk to me, and if I'm ever in NY I can stay with them (assuming of course they're there). I was, needless to say, overwhelmingly happy and surprised. So, I thanked her profusely and quickly took down her number. Yay.
:-D
And I actually have a job! As of today, I have a job for the next 4 days. I will be working at Mapes doing inventory from 12-9 PM for $8 or $9 an hour. So, yay money with temp jobs.
And we're going to Virginia on Friday to visit my grandfather. His girlfriend's son owns a bar, so I'm going to see if I can work at least one night there just to get something on my resumé and get some actual experience. So, here's to hoping!
Also, Mandy's got a concert down in Baltimore on January 20th at 8 PM at the Lyric Opera House, so...anyone want to go and/or give me a place to stay? I'd love to go and see him again, and it's definitely a worthwhile concert. Let me know ASAP! Tickets range from $28-$58 + charges totaling $9.85. So, $37.85-$67.85. Info at
