I was looking at pianos (and piano-like objects) recently, against the somewhat long-term possibility that the children might need something more traditional than my synthesizer.

If a $200 keyboard is looking attractive, he may have a severe long-term cashflow problem...

Indeed: Piano-substitutes are getting quite good. Maybe he should even stock some.

But with a serious piano-player (the sort that studies for 4+ years), an actual piano is better.
