Apparently there's some identifying mark on my ballot, so that I can (given the receipt) check to see if my ballot has been counted. This disturbs me: I doubt that they've properly preserved the secret-ballot guarantees. But then, there's a lot of things about our election system that are kind of odd

hmm... I think that system can work if no one has a record tying your ballot to your name. Meaning, only you as the receipt-holder can check on that one ballot and know that it's yours. But that means we have to trust that nothing connects the receipts with the voter ledger or what-have-you. and I can't remember if we end up with a timestamp when we sign the ledger (haven't done it in person in a while), and people might be able to reconstruct something from information like that along with some kind of sequential tag.
