Given my first post today, any who read this are not going to believe it, but US Congressman Paul Broun just now visited my company! We are a company that manufactures construction textiles and that produces in the vicinity of $100 million in sales each year, so we are apparently not too small potatoes for a member of the US House of ( Read more... )

Hmm...I appreciate Broun's fiscal conservatism. And on the whole (obviously) I think that the Republicans have the right of things with their push to slash spending. Although I recognize that taxes are necessary, and I agree that the loopholes could be closed (or we could streamline the system) and even that I might have to pay a little more, though I dislike this. I believe it was S&P or Moody's that said we should cut spending and raise revenue at a 3 to 1 ration, which seems fair ( ... )

Except it is a 'tell the voters what they want to hear', isn't it? None of the folks he spoke to there, including you, wanted to be told that you're wrong about how awful things are. Politicians of all stripes are in the business of getting your support -- that doesn't happen by telling you you're totally off-base. :) Better to agree so the voter has some sympathy/empathy, then lead down the primrose path to whatever angle being worked.

This is, of course, entirely cynical of politicians in general. I'm sure there are legitimately concerned and caring ones out there who want to represent their people. I doubt they make it higher than local offices.
