i've been hella busy. i spent China's National Days in KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: 5 days of eating Muslim/Malay food, shopping, partying, and mingling with the locals. :-)
A friend of mine mentioned falafel the other day - I wanted to hit her. I need to travel more...
Your dream catcher is so marvelous! It sounds like this semester is going to be a good one for you. So far, mine is going pretty good. I only teach one class, but I edit like crazy. This has finally translated (ooops, pun) into truly working with graduate students and mentoring them.
>>i've created "Insights into the Navajo Culture" this year.
we >>have many tasks at hand, including: >>- language: useful Navajo phrases >>- family: significance of a matrilineal society >>- music/dance: pow-wow beats >>- legends: i.e. dreamcatchers >>- fashion: turquoise and beading >>- textiles: rugs and looms >>- food: mutton, frybread, and corn
Do you condemn it with the elders of the Navajo, or this is your initiative? Are your elders approve of such actions?
my family nor my community does not "condemn" it (that is too strong of a word), but they do have reservations. some believe i shouldn't teach the language for fear of a war (Navajo Codetalkers) or a possible invasion.
otherwise, people are very encouraging! come join my class!
I do not know whether you are aware, but the Lakota distributes its own language at a very high level. They have a professional forum where they teach newbies without any specific ideology and motivation. They released a very professional vocabulary. If you are interested, I can give references for you, for you to appreciate a similar concept.
I do not know what kind of war you say. Do You mean the war because of the cultural expansion of the culture of Native Americans? I approve this expansion with both hands. And I will volunteer for any war on the side of the Indians. I think many thousands of people also go by volunteers, if you give them Indian names as the Medal of Honor:)
