My new toy

As you've probably noticed, I haven't updated in a while. Part of that was that I wasn't in much of a mood to do it. That's now changed. www.freemacware.com - explore there first.

www.macworld.com

I found that I have no use for the dashboard/widgets. Most of that stuff I can get on the web or in the menu bar via addons - so for me I don't use it. Plus, it does use a bit of system resources.

You'll also find that Firefox on the Mac is a bit of a memory hog, so if you can live without extensions, that's good. Safari is okay, but it lacks ... something.

I use Camino - http://www.caminobrowser.org/ - as my main browser. It's nice and speedy.

Thanks, I'll definitely give it a shot.

I downloaded Firefox already b/c it's what I'm used to (and love) and even I knew about Safari's limitations. The Camino website looked interesting enough for me to give it a shot.

One quick newbie question - is deleting something from the Mac as simple as dragging the program from the applications folder to the trash can, or is there something I have to go to like the "Add/Delete Programs" window in Windows to ensure that I've fully removed all the program's component parts from my harddrive?

Just drag that app to the trash can, man! That's it. Really.

There WILL be some preference files left behind (in a seperate folder), but they aren't really needed by the operating system after the app gets trashed.

Would one of you crazy Mac freaks recommend him an instant messenger program that connects to AIM??

iChat.

AIM is also available for the Mac.

A Trillian clone for the Mac would be Adium.

Heh.

Seriously though - you'll enjoy the Mac/OS X. It just takes a while to 'think' differently after switching.
