It seems pretty cold at first glance. I don't like the idea of someone picking up an old name I may not be quite finished with, but the page doesn't really give any specifics as to what qualifies an account as dead. I would imagine that this only applies to accounts that people have deliberately deactivated themselves, thereby giving them back to the LJ public domain. I've done this with my old account, and I'd imagine that a renaming service like this is somewhat necessary, lest we all eventually end up with strings of insignificant numbers and letters at the ends of our names, just to preserve uniqueness. Still, it would be pretty eerie if I ever saw JonathanBenAri on my friends page unaccompanied by that signature smirk.
