one step at a time...

A concern in a slippery slope situation is that during/after the first step or three down the slope, no danger is easily perceived. You aren't sliding, yet. Our forefathers on the other side of the Atlantic have been taking steps that may, if we aren't careful, put our entire justice system at risk, pushing us all down into a more barbaric state ( Read more... )

They might even catch up with us on that slippery slope.

Well, I don't know if they'll go THAT far, yet, not without sliding. For sure, we've done more than our share of damage, and I think there is more to come. Maybe we should all just hold hands and jump down the slope together, save time.
Thanks for the depressing, but most relevant, reply. I have my fingers crossed, but I bet they get muscle strain and atrophy before I can uncross them. I fear we're heading towards hell on a Flexible Flyer.

Thanks Sabyl, I appreciate it.
Sometimes I write topics here and few reply (even though I know I have a large-ish "friends" list) and it is hard to tell if one is too right or too wrong or misguided or not interesting or crazy or a bad writer, whatever.
One of the only reasons I am even here is to try and write more, exercise my brain, and to see if I can transition to writing as an actual life. I'm a forced retiree, with some limiting variables and much less choices going forward, I have to fit life into certain boxes now, but "Writer" might actually fit into one of them.
I hope. I even pray (which speaks volumes, if you know me well enough).
So, thanks very much.

New methods for protecting jurors would seem much more prudent and interesting than ceding the right to jury trial. Using video conferencing technology it would be easily possible to allow remote jurors, or even pseudonymous jurors ( ... )

All right on point, especially liked your first paragraph. Seems very feasible to me, and the wave of the future, perhaps.

Yes, David would have been stupid and plea bargaining is much less risk, but he did have the RIGHT to a trial by Jury. All I am arguing against is taking away that right, not the pragmatic decisions of specific occasions where that Right isn't used.
Thanks, as always.
