Libertarianism at its finest. They've privatized their coast guard into the hands of entrepreneurs who are using the glories of the marketplace to expand their business.

I can see how libertarians would get excited about it and put that gloss on it. But there are other glosses available.

Such as community comes together to retake control of it's coasts, and re-expropriate some wealth from the colonial expropriate while they're at it. (The first part might fit into the Libertarian story too, but the second part is more left Anarchist).

Or, just plain Thuggish Mafia-esque criminal syndicate incorporates more of the population into their dark black market economy based on piracy.

I think the truth of what's going on is probably approached by some combination of all of those.

I was being more snarky than analytical. It just seems to me where the places where local capital runs free from government, where police power, etc are truly privatized are the places on this earth that most libertarians would call hell holes.

Yeah, I mean, I think it really IS a combination of all that. Some anarchists (many of whom already have a weird love of 'mythological' pirates) really will see this as a positive thing, self-organized militia, a community starting to re-organize itself positively to defend itself and steal from the global capitalists while they're at it ( ... )
