They already do that.

China's forced them to filter out sensitive information from outside their borders. Not to mention their annoying tendency to tell me a website is unsafe for me.

I feel the same way you do.

I saw a news story around the time that they decided to release search information about a little old lady in Georgia that the news was able to track down based on what she searched for on Google. That's utterly terrifying to me.

At the same time, I love the services Google provides. You're right, they are like a government.
