But the USSR never was anything other than a totalitarian state. It went from a totalitarian monarchy to a totalitarian communism. Of course we're not in a totalitarian state, far from it. That I can say this kind of stuff without fear of being carted off to Alaska (Siberia) is proof that this is not a totalitarian state, and is still 99% the United States we know & love

This doesn't address my point, which is, again - I disagree with your analysis of events. Intelligent and informed people can look at the same thing and disagree regarding what it means. (Which is why I'm not calling Democrats idiots.)
