Just in case you haven't, I would definitely pop into WHSmiths and leaf through the little book they have there on used cars. Its in the magazine section of most WHSmiths (the one at Liverpool St station has it for example - not sure on Balham itself), sort of B5 sized booklet. Its not Glasses guide, but something similar

Well, partly true, but Mrs Jonnymusic and I agreed that we need to look at some other examples first and drive around in daylight hours. Owner of aforementioned A4 was quite understanding and said to call him back if we were still interested after the weekend. He claimed he had a 'close offer' that he had to accept or decline yesterday, so we'll see what happens.
I was reasonably impressed by the car as it stands though - good looking thing, nice interior, lots of impressive looking computerised displays that flash and go 'blip'. Not convinced there's really much space in it, even with the back seats down, but as a 'lifestyle estate' I can see it doing the biz.
