1) Breaking up with someone for whom you still care deeply is devastating, and there's really nothing for it except to grieve until you run out of sad feelings. 2) Regardless of what happens in the future between you and this woman, the experiences that you and she have had up to this point will always be worth a lot. 3) It's awesome that you did connect with someone so deeply. I doubt very much that this will be the last time you do so, but still, few things ever taste sweeter than the memories of new love. Nobody can ever take those memories away from you, and you should savor them, because they're real.
I'm really sorry, Jon. If it were summer I'd say "let's all raid Don and Karen's liquor cabinet," but summer it ain't, and you're still in Boston. You will move forwards one way or another, but right now the important thing for you to do is grieve without holding yourself to nonsensical standards of "strength" or "dignity." Let your sorrow out; if you don't, it will continue to poison and hinder you.
