My original goals were to write and revise a 30,000-word freelance project and write 13,500 words of my own novel WIP. Well, the details got changed - I ended up writing two new short stories in that time and starting a third, so my non-freelance writing got divided up among the novel and the three short stories - but I finished & revised my freelance project as planned (which turned out to be 30,300 words), and wrote just under 13,000 words of my own fiction.
My instinct is to obsess about those last 500 words of my own fiction that I didn't manage...but considering all the many writing days I lost to illness (both my own and my family's) over the last couple of months, I'm going to choose to call this a success. Yay!
I, too, had to change my goals due to other work coming in and then illness these past couple of weeks. But I'm still happy with what I got done.
- Rewrote an entire book for my UK editor (including 15,000 completely new words, and changing most of the others to some extent!) - Wrote 30K on the first draft of another project. - Copy edits on The Wood Queen that came in. - Page proofs on The Wood Queen.
I am still behind on things, and need to write something like 40k in December to catch up (while recovering from illness and preparing for Xmas), but I consider JoNo a success. :)
I accomplished two out of three goals: finished copyedits on one book and revisions on another. My WIP grew significantly, but isn't done. It'll get there.
BUT- the twins did cut their first six teeth during this time -- and since that's been nearly as painful for ME as for them (I miss sleep!!) I consider that quite the accomplishment, too.
It has been most fabulous taking part in JoNo this year. Well done on accomplishing 2 of your goals, and it sounds like you've made lots of progress on your WiP too. All in all, a win! :)
I wrote 10,410 words in my WIP (which brings me to just over 17,000) and although this was not my goal of a full 1st draft, I'm very happy because I think I've finally gotten over THE HUMP. You know, the one where you're wandering around the beginning of the story, trying to find that spot where you can settle in and just write. Think I'm finally there.
In addition to making some progress, I did do a round of revisions on TOUCHING THE SURFACE and copy edits. And yesterday I had an amazing cover reveal.

I know the feeling, re. battling illness, but we do what we can and revise our goals - take success where we can.
