Charity Giving

I decided that this year I'm going to give gifts to charity in people's names instead of giving them knick-knacks or practical items. I'm trying to spread the love a little bit. Here's the four charities I've got so far--what other charities should I consider for my limited Christmas gift allowance?

Such an awesome idea! Have you heard about Kiva Loans? I read about them a few years back. http://www.kiva.org/app.php
It's a micro-loan program, to help people work their way out of poverty.

for a little of both there is always the women's bean project http://www.womensbeanproject.com/

Plus as someone who works in what some would consider a "charitable giving opportunity" I would say gifts/money to the people who help the people who you would normally give to might be a neat alternative. We are terribly underpaid and under appreciated. Might be nice to do a gift basket or something for the caregivers/volunteers at a local hospital/nursing home/shelter/ etcetera.
