My Grandma was telling me a story about the time that a representative from the Musician's Union showed up to a free show that her band, Lefty and the Boys, was performing for a local charity or some such. He threatened to blackball them and said they'd never be allowed to play with any union members, and that they were taking the money out of the ( Read more... )

That's hilarious. Nobody has a right to respect. But really . . . all of that stuff, it's just ridiculous.

Maybe I should bring this bill of rights to my band rehearsal next Wednesday. Oh my gosh I hate our ridiculous vests and bow ties. I don't believe in cross dressing and bow ties are for men. It's especially demeaning because they don't have the vests in my size. It's either wear a womens one too small or a mens one (more cross-dressing!) that is massive and embarrassing. I don't get no respect.

Yeah, I think you should probably go back and sue your old choir director. Or maybe even the school district. Or state, if it was a public school. Whomever has the most money, of course.

Oooooh! I'm totally for the protection from irrelevant recorded music part!
I went to jazz club in Kyoto this one time and the performers were amazing, but between their sets the club played terrible and completely clashing styles of music. I think it might have been American Oldies. *shudder*

They may have been unionized though. I went again a year later for a 'rock night' and between sets the performers entertained the audience with ridiculous anecdotes and shenanigans instead.
