The Federal Marriage Amendment

Jul 13, 2004 18:11

What is this law doing to people? No offense to any Christians honestly, but you people think you rule the world, why do you do that. Oh no they're going to destroy family values.... how exactly are they going to do that? People say that there won't be any children if we allow homosexuals to be married.... no there won't, but people act as if ( Read more... )

i totally agree with you, in fact i was having this same conversation just today. but dont think it's all Christians that are like that, mostly staunch-conservatives and bush supporters. the moment i heard his proposal for that amendment, i cant describe just how angry i was. what pisses me off about bush is that he wants to appear all moral and conservative but only when it is to his advantage. oh, abortion and gay marriage are sooo sooo immoral, but so are lying, cheating, and killing people. also, i find it ridiculous that he wants to put this ridiculous amendment into a document that has stood the time in that it has guaranteed most americans to feel, love or think whatever the hell we want as long as it doesnt hurt anyone else. rule # 1- religion and politics DO NOT mix!

i didn't mean all christians, just the heavy republican ones. Religion and politics do not mix, that's for sure, and immoral, heh, this war in iraq, he's what he's trying to stay away from.

Might i also add to the beginning of your post, that it is a living document, but some of those amendments were made to remove discrimination(spelling i hate that word) from people. So for the first real time, we are instituting it into a document that has made our lives great. It allows us to be free, and do things we enjoy. Even if that is the right to be gay.

Last time we mixed politics with religion, people were burned at the stake.

thank you J-E that is precisely what i was talking about. Rusty, I wasnt makinga silly generaliztion. I was commenting on the salem witch trials. People then were persecuted in the name of god because they were thought to be witches.
I am Wiccan, and I don't believe in the christian god. I referred to that point because I remember reading about that time. It is sad that people of different religions cannot just get along. I wish that people were a bit more open to others religions and such. Although people can be hardheaded (as I am) I dont try to push my religion off on others because I believe that everyone has a right to believe in their own god or goddess. Also, Wicca doesn't claim to be the one and only religion. Thank you.

i guess you should know more about me before you open your mouth, i was a christian, i turned my back on that ignorant religion along time ago(again not insulting your views, just the ones i was taught), i've been fed that rubbish for years, i believed it, for a while, until i saw the type of ignorance it breeds. Christians have killed in the name of god, but so have all the other religions, i used christianity as a basis because i used to be one. Thanks. This country was based on the fact that people could choose their religion, their values, their morals, but he is trying to take that away from a group, he's alienating these people. And no, i don't believe homosexuality is something you choose. I have bisexual tendencies, but i didn't choose them, they just happen. Why can't we let people do things that they want if they cause no real harm to people. I was watching something on HBO yesterday. The man said he's pro freedom, which is cool, i was agreeing with everything that the guy said, then he said he hates jews..... and ( ... )

I'm not really sure how I stumbled across your journal, but..

No offense to any Christians honestly, but you people think you rule the world, why do you do that.

I'm a Christian. I don't think a country should stand by any religous values. My personal opinion is that homosexuals should have their right to marriage, just as any straight man/woman does.

And you're right about the child thing. Just cuz they're not married doesn't mean the gays would have kids anyways. And there are plenty of homeless children out there needing love, etc..

Christians are the worst ones, they are the most hypocritical of everything. Thanks.

But, yea, I'm not sure how I stumbled across your journal, but you seem like an awesome guy, could I add you to my friends list?
