((Godmoding of various things okayed by Vossler and Larsa. Also I hope it's okay to assume potions work in Lyra's world.))

It was one of the servants of Jordan who first found Vossler and hastily did what she could to tend to the unconscious man's wounds, then the harried porter was notified, and soon several more servants came to offer assistance. Basch happened to be passing by on his way back to his room and without hesitation went to offer his help as well, and it was then that he noticed the unmistakable Dalmascan armor, and the even more unmistakable face of a man he'd believe dead for over year. Looking bruised and bloodied, his nose possibly broken for the nth time, but definitely Vossler - and he was breathing.

Everything afterward seemed a blur; a rushed, terse explanation that he knew this man; a suggestion to bring him to Basch's room, where he could tend to Vossler himself; everyone reluctant to touch the stranger's unconscious dog daemon but Basch, who lifted and carried it while the servants saw to the former captain ( ... )

The unpleasant tang of blood and a sickly sweet, familiar aftertaste of some healing concoction were the first things to greet Vossler. Then light, bright against his eyelids and warm on his face. He squinted against it, struggling to see where he was. He could place nothing about the room but his own armor and sword, too far away for his liking, and the easily recognizable Judge's armor sitting beside them. And the mismatched swords... no, interlocking swords ( ... )

"Yes," Basch replied, turning so he was facing Vossler fully. "And no."

He made no move for the weapons, since he was not the Ronsenburg twin bearing any particular grudge against the ex-captain, not anymore. Even a year ago he'd understood his friend's motives - only too well. And his pride.

"How are you feeling, Vossler?"

There was no mistaking that voice, both like and unlike the twin brother's, with a more subdued Landisser accent, perhaps intentional. Vossler had always meant to ask, to tease Basch about sounding more Dalmascan every day. He couldn't remember why he never had.

"Your hair," he said hoarsely, almost incoherently, staring at Basch with an incredulous look on his face. The man had just left Vossler on board the Shiva, but looked so... different.

((I don't know what posting order you guys want, but if I'm ever too slow feel free to skip Basch's turn. And Larsa-player, jump in any time!))

Basch returned to his room with a stack of clean linen and set it next to the basin, which he'd rinsed and filled with fresh water prior to leaving. Until Vossler felt up to getting around unsupported, it was the closest to bathing he'd get.

(Though if Vossler's stubborn pride ever allowed him to ask for Basch's assistance, he would give it gladly.)

"You have a visitor," he informed Vossler, nodding toward Balthier, who'd followed him.

He was exactly where Basch had left him, sitting in bed with the sheets pulled up to his stomach while Caldwyr, his daemon, took up the foot of the bed.

"Pirate," Vossler said by way of greeting, glancing up to give Basch a peevish look and Balthier his standard, vaguely suspicious one.

Needless to say, he was still feeling indignant over the fact Basch was now a glorified nanny to the Solidor child, instead of having returned to the country and the people that had adopted and embraced him as their own. Nevermind the traitor business. The Dalmascan people could be made to understand, he was sure, because Ashelia understood. Queen Ashelia. He still couldn't quite believe all he'd missed.

"Dead man," Balthier quipped in return, "You actually look quite good for someone who was dead not but a few hours ago. How has your nurse been treating you?"

"His bedside manner could use some work," Vossler replied, folding his arms across his chest. He eyed Basch. "A bath couldn't hurt either. Unless, of course, wearing blood is still a requisite for being a Judge."

If Basch thought the presence of an outside party would make Vossler censor himself or forget their little lovers' spat disagreement, he was sorely mistaken.

"I've heard about the stunt you pulled, pirate. I never would have taken you for the self-sacrificing type."
