So far, Junior year is not as bad as I had expected it to be. Hopefully, I did not just jinx that.
But anyway, I've been thinking lately about things (it's only natural to do so).
I think it's interesting, if not a little bit funny, when people say that America is a progressive society
I mean, how can we call ourselves progressive when things like Health Care are a privilege and not a right? How can we call ourselves progressive when there are about 9-12 million Americans that can't marry due to their sexual orientation? How can we lay claim as the progressive generation that ushered in the first Black president when Black children are kicked out of Community Swimming Pools because of their "complexion"? How can we say that we have equal opportunities for all when men make considerable more women doing the same work? How can we say we that we represent everyone equally when we have white actors and actresses portraying Blacks, Asians, Latinos, Native Americans, Indians, and Middle Easterners in mainstream media? How can we call ourselves progressive when communities use anything from scare tactics to morality checks to prevent people from exercising their inalienable rights? How can we even proudly declare ourselves as a "Progressive Society" when forces within our society are doing all they can in their power to halt--if not reverse--the notion of progress itself?
Granted, progress has been made since the Civil Rights and Women's Rights movements of the Twentieth Century, but we still have a long way to go. A very long way to go.
God, I think too much sometimes, and yet I don't seem to think enough. Help me, for I am starting to lose faith.
