If you want to aim for something cyberpunk-ish but without the 'omg implants!' then perhaps mix it up with a bit of Terminator and Matrix: no one (on the PCs' side) does that because that's the quickest way to get taken over by the Robots. Just getting prosthetic limbs alone would be fraught with peril. But the Robots are in control of everything important and the human rebels need to work with the machinery in order to scrape out a living ( ... )

Heh. I rather like the idea of a "prison" being some place that by all appearances is NOT one.

(Edited: Trying to make this a little shorter and less rambly.)

Just to be clear, I'm not against having some sort of implants or cyberware in a cyberpunk setting. It's just that in the old Cyberpunk, you might have skill chips (instantly switch "native" languages!) or a targeting eye linked to a smart gun, or even have a spot where you can plug in a cable to "jack in" directly to a computer terminal or to take control of a power suit ... but if someone was going to mess with your head, it would either be through the cable ("ICE" software because you hacked the wrong terminal, or you got captured and forcibly hooked up to an interrogation machine), or else, of course, the old-fashioned way ( ... )
