Bioshock: Space After The Bomb! The space program didn't stall out in the 70s; instead, an eccentric millionaire funded a lunar base, but it was cut off by the onset of nuclear war. Now a handful of survivors have somehow managed to assemble a workable spacecraft and have pinned their hopes on escaping the wastelands of Earth into the clean frontier of the future, Heaven City. But it's been a generation. What became of the Utopians who built and inhabited the city, and why did they never send a mission to Earth?
That kind of reminds me of some more cut content from Bioshock Infinite.
There's a point in the game where the player is exposed to a surreal representation of different timelines: "There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city." In the version we see, we see several little islands, several lighthouses, and the implication is that they lead to several versions of Columbia, or Rapture, or perhaps even somewhere else. In the game, there are still (un-textured) models for other "lighthouses" that were going to be used to suggest even more possibilities. There was the "desert lighthouse," (YouTube link showing incomplete, unused area), an observatory, and even Citadel Station from the old System Shock.
The latter (Citadel Station) particularly intrigued me, with the thought of somehow tying together even that part of the "Shock" extended franchise.
And parallels are readily found. Instead of plasmids or vigors, it's a mish-mash of cyber or biotech implants. And it's got about the same sort of mid-to-near-end-game plot-twist reveal as in the Bioshock games. And hackable turrets and hackable dispensers, and ... hey, Bioshock is in so many ways practically "System Shock 2, reskinned." ;)
