When first watching this film I thought it was some kind of joke. Now that you have asked the question do I think the characters are stereotypical I really have put some thought into it. I also agree with your points on this film. I was also puzzled about the professor. I guess he was typically interested by Harold Crick's proposition of the voice he heard, and how literature was integrated in it.

Yeah the college professor was the hardest stereotype for me as well. I actually didn't know he was a professor until I saw him letting that class out in one scene. I just thought he was a full time psychiatrist or something!

I DISAGREE! Haha, jk I just said that cause everybody was agreeing... But really I do concur with all of the things said here specially michelle's since I too think that he was interested after having had said that the voice said, "Little did he know"...
