JAZZ, TOO MUCH IMPROVISATION and BASKETBALL.

Jul 24, 2009 06:12

Just something quick i was thinking about.

You know. I have to be honest. I never liked the super Jazzy Jazz stuff that much. I like "Jazzy" Stuff but I was never too hot on like THE "REAL" JAZZ. I had a couple of friends who really liked playing it. And i have to be honest. Initially the reason why i didnt like it was because i couldnt play it ( Read more... )

it takes a lot from a musician to actually confess to not liking a certain musical style :)

ako naman i was baligtad. i could stand listening to those things kasi i thought that's what a musician should aspire to. i became obsessed with scales and metronome at 80bpm working the alternate finger whatever increasing it by 5bpm every 2 hours. that kind of thing. then i realized noone wants to hear "guitar wank" too much, and that you can't pass yourself off as a musician if you can't WRITE songs. though i like musicians who can play "in the pocket" like clapton and weather report and victor wooten, that kind of thing.

also one more thing. it was actually YOU that convinced me that the groove is the most important part haha. i tend to lose my train of thought after about 15 seconds, and just enjoy playing rhythm more. even when i solo it still sounds like i just vary the rhythm a tiny bit, so it doesn't really sound like i'm "SOLOING" in the first place. it's like you're still pulling everyone, but not shining.

sorry if i'm writing like an entry in your comments. i just really enjoyed this article. i'm coming from the same standpoint. songwriting trumps guitar wank.

ps. i wish i could emcee. hahahaha. i think it's the most amazing thing ever, seriously. but how do you even start practicing it, you know? hahaha

haha

dont downplay the fact that you already laid foundation to your guitar skills. keep up the exercises with the metronome and wanking but with the mindset that you now have

na touch me awwww haha

Tumpak.
