Later Flight

Taeyeon/Jessica; 3,380 words;
pg-13; non-au
a.n: a little something. not completely back tho.

As usual, Jessica was the last one to wake up. She stretched her limbs in the air and groaned when Tiffany began to jump up and down on the bed.

“If you won’t stop, I’ll break your goddamn legs, babe.”

“My job here is done.” Tiffany went on her knees and leaned forward to give a wet peck on Jessica’s cheek. “Morning.”

“Ew.” Jessica made a disgusted face and smacked Tiffany with the pillow in hand, pushing the girl out of the bed.

“Your breath is ew-er.” Tiffany fixed her hair and straightened out of her shirt with her hand. She was already dressed and prepared. Looking like a star that she was. She was attractive and incredibly beautiful. Jessica wondered why she didn’t like her instead. “Hyoyeon’s in the shower.”

That meant it was going to take an hour for the girl to finish. Jessica couldn’t understand why Hyoyeon had to take so long to shower.  It led her mind to unwanted places when she wondered why. She brushed it off quickly, praying a little prayer in her mind for her unintentional means. (Funny how she didn’t do it for the times when it was intentional)

Tiffany was now busying herself with a phone. A smile slowly crept on her pretty face. Jessica knew well enough whose phone the girl was holding; Taeyeon’s.

“Look.” Tiffany jutted her hand out, the phone screen facing Jessica. “I took a photo of Taeyeon when she was sleeping like a baby and posted it on her instagram. So freaking adorable. I bet the fans will love it.” She laughed, satisfied with the result.

Jessica rolled her eyes and ran a hand through her messy hair. She climbed off the bed and momentarily looked over Tiffany’s shoulder, looking at the scrolling interface of the app. Taeyeon really looked cute, Jessica thought and smiled a little smile.

If she had been the one to share the room with her, she would have.. But noooo, Tiffany just had to scoop in and stole Taeyeon from her. Well, strictly-speaking, Tiffany simply asked if Taeyeon wanted to share a room with her and the latter said yes. But still, it was the same in Jessica’s case.

Despite it, Jessica was a little relief just knowing Tiffany wasn’t like that. The girl was straight as a pole. Maybe a little gay for fans’ and company’s sake.Maybe too much when she was with Taeyeon. Maybe Tiffany was really gay.

NO, Jessica reminded herself. After all, Tiffany was in relationship with Nickhun from 2pm. For some reason, the thought of them together brought an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of her stomach.

The dude was a shmuck in Jessica’s eyes. Tiffany deserved better. Well, not Taeyeon. Because Jessica deserved Taeyeon. Back to the point, the overly protective side of her comes out when it comes to Tiffany.

Actually, everyone wants to protect Tiffany. Nobody did much or gave the notion that they would do the same for Jessica. Okay, maybe Tiffany herself, did. Maybe that was why they fit in so well with each other albeit the major differences in their personalities.

She once saved Jessica from the pink catastrophe when Jessica accidentally bought six pairs of socks, all ratchet pink. And plus, they were Hello Kitty’s. (The horror on Jessica’s face and the gleeful expression on Tiffany’s face that day)

Hey, it was close to saving right? At least, Tiffany paid for them.

“You’ve done packing?” Jessica asked.

“Uh, yeah.” Tiffany brought her feet up and placed them on the vanity table, sinking a little in the chair. “Last night. Manager’s going to have a fit if he knows you’re doing it last minute.”

“He’s used to it, anyway.” Jessica shrugged and took out her toothbrush from her opened (and very messy) suitcase. Then Tiffany began tapping the screen with her perfectly manicured nails. This annoyed Jessica very much. “Don’t you have somewhere else to be?”

Tiffany ignored her but eventually she stopped tapping. “I’m going with Yoona to get some coffee before we leave for airport. Anything you want?”

“You know what I want. But no thanks.” Jessica said and hung the face towel on her arm, hoping Hyoyeon would finish sooner. It was true that Tiffany knew what she wanted, from coffee to girls, and knew the words before Jessica even finishes her sentences. They were like two peas in a pod.

Typical of Tiffany to be so interested in anyone’s life. Nosy too, much to Jessica’s dismay (and a little relief. Because she won’t have to do all the work.) But Jessica loved Tiffany like a twin sister and a bitchy girlfriend whom she brings out for shopping or practice kissing with if they had met in tween years.

Usually, Jessica would have snapped at her anyone in the morning, especially right after she had just woken up. But seldom with Tiffany. That was because Tiffany could be a greater bitch to her and be the only one who dared to wake her up. (Once, Jessica kicked her manager in the balls for doing so, a reflexive response after being rudely woken up)

“See you later. Oh, I borrowed your mascara. It’s in my room. Use the bathroom. I think Taeyeon had already finished.” Before Tiffany left, she flashed a quick eye smile and winked at Jessica as if she knew something. Jessica narrowed her eyes at her bestfriend, not saying anything in return.

She had never told anyone about her liking Taeyeon except for Taeyeon herself. It came out abruptly when she told Taeyeon. Out of the blue.Unexpectedly.Unintentionally. (Yes, she did pray for that time) Hopelessly.

The only guess she could come up if Tiffany knew about it was probably because she was Tiffany. The girl knew everything. Annoyingly so, that was.

The thought of encountering Taeyeon in a towel made her feel giddy and somewhat a pervert. Seeing Taeyeon would definitely make her morning a lot better. After what it seemed to be a-five minute contemplation, Jessica went out and went to Taeyeon and Tiffany’s room. Standing infront of the heavy looking dark door with the number 418 on it, Jessica sucked in a deep breath and exhaled silently.

Nobody would have thought that this girl could be such a mess. In appearance, everyone saw her as a well put together person. A girl who would never miss a beat or let anyone get to her. It was believable by the look on her face, and everyone bought it.

When it was just Jessica’s way of moving around and the ‘I don’t really give a fuck, maybe a little, but no’ face she boldly uses in front of the camera. (Funnily enough, people made it more than what it really seemed, hence giving her the nickname ‘ice princess’. She cringes whenever she hears it)

So there was she was, opposite of what she presented herself on television. She combed her hair again and again. Messed it up a little so Taeyeon would not think she had prepared for this moment. (which she did) Then applied some lip gloss and lightly wet it so it won’t be too much or the average amount. Stupidly, she went back in her room and rubbed the perfume bottle on her neck and chest. If she were to spray it, it would have been obvious.

After all the much needed trouble, she went back out and placed her finger on the ring button, not pressing it yet. Quickly, before she had the chance to not to, she pressed and the bell rang, coming out in muffled tunes through the thick door.

Get a grip, Jessica. You’re great. Gorjess.Beautiful.Whatever.You can do it.

Feeling a little bit more confident, she knocked lightly with her fisted trembling hand. She could have announced herself through the door but her voice was probably deep buried down her dry throat. Then, all at once, little pieces of disappointment and frustration washed over her. She was reminded of the times when Taeyeon ignored her after she confessed.

She was reminded of the pain she had gone through, even just by looking at Taeyeon from far away. It hurt when she wasn’t close to her. It still hurt when she was close to her. She remembered when they had to stand next to each other for some jeans advertisement at some press event, and Taeyeon stood a little further away from her when the rest of the members were close to each other.

The chance of meeting Taeyeon one on one had made her forget about it for a moment. Alas, a moment turned into the rest of the day when the door finally opened.

Warm air rushed out to greet Jessica. Standing before her was freshly dressed Taeyeon, who was drying her hair with a towel, head tilted to the side. She was wearing a see through white shirt, and a black bra could be seen, leaving little to Jessica’s imagination.

Fuck.

A gentle smile spread across Taeyeon’s face. And Jessica sighed inside. It had been such a while to see a smile from Taeyeon that was meant for her only. The sleeve almost slipped off from Taeyeon’s shoulder, revealing more skin and the bra strap.

Fuck.

Jessica wanted to touch her. Her mind was blank for a few seconds. She could feel her control withering away and her legs went all soft. Taeyeon looked somewhat baffled and lightly chewed her lower lip. She was always did that whenever she was thinking or confused.

Fuck.

Suddenly, Jessica almost had the sudden urge to jump on her. Maybe volunteer in biting Taeyeon’s lips instead. Maybe rip Taeyeon’s stupid white see through shirt too. Oh, hormones.

“Jessica?” Taeyeon stopped drying her hair, successfully snapping Jessica out of her dirty thoughts. She gestured her to come in. “You can use the bathroom. Guessing Hyoyeon’s still in yours.” She laughed lightly. It sounded so precious in Jessica’s ears. She smiled.

In few seconds, Jessica’s heartbeat come to a nice slow and the buzz in her head vanished. She could think clearly now.

“Um, yeah.” Jessica let out an awkward short laugh. She cursed herself mentally and then went into the bathroom to brush her teeth. After that, she came out to find out Taeyeon packing. Her eyes found her mascara sitting on the table. “Oh. There’s my mascara.” Another awkward moment.

“A-ha, right.”

Jessica didn’t know why she had the need to say it even though Tiffany had already told her about it. As if on cue, Tiffany entered the stifling room and the cold air came in, thankfully. It was beginning to feel really warm not in a good way, Jessica realized.

“Forgot my wallet.” Tiffany giggled. “Here’s your phone, Tae.” She smiled sweetly at Taeyeon and snuck the phone in the back pocket of Taeyeon’s jeans and then patted at it. Inside, Jessica was screaming. The girl Jessica wanted to murder moved away and picked up her wallet. “Manager has already noticed the two of your suitcases are not down yet. He’s pissed.”

“Whatever.” Taeyeon and Jessica said in unison. It made Jessica’s stomach did this stupid fluttery thing they always say in the books. But the look Taeyeon gave Tiffany - a teasing smile and sincere eyes - made Jessica feel a little bitter. She was jealous.

Tiffany waved goodbye and raised her brow at Jessica briefly. Jessica rolled her eyes. “Have fun you two.” Tiffany said in a sickly sweet voice.
“What does she mean by that?” Taeyeon asked after Tiffany left.

“You know her. Tiffany being Tiffany.” Jessica huffed.

“Hmmm.”

“I think she knows. About us, I mean. Our situation.”

“What about us?” Technically, there wasn’t any ‘us’ to begin with. Taeyeon glanced at Jessica before averting her gaze out of the window, still not finished packing. Jessica took a few steps closer to her. Taeyeon’s back facing her.

“About me liking you.” There was a short pause in between. “I like you, Taeyeon. I said it before accidentally. Now, I’m saying it willingly. You know that I do, all along. But I also know that you like me too.”  What made Jessica kept hoping was because of the one time when Taeyeon told her what she felt even though she had too many drinks to drink. They say, ‘drunken words are sober thoughts.’

Suddenly, the room felt as if the air was sucked out by a vacuum and it became so still.  Jessica held her breath, waiting for something. But there was nothing in the next few seconds. A sinking feeling came down in her stomach. She could feel tears pricking at her eyes.

“Taeyeon, talk to me.” She said in a small voice. Disappointment was going to come and consume her again, she thought painfully.

Jessica saw Taeyeon drawing in a long deep breath. She noticed her shoulders shook a little. She can’t help but placed her hand on it. It seemed to have calm Taeyeon a little. Finally, Taeyeon turned around and met Jessica’s glistening eyes.

“You’re so beautiful.” Taeyeon breathed and brought her fingers up to touch Jessica’s cheek. It was so out of the blue, it suddenly became hard for Jessica to breathe properly. The cool fingertips paralyzing her every muscle as it traveled down her cheek and then along her jaw.

Those simple words had made her heart still. It was as if Taeyeon had meaning to say it since the beginning. It blanketed her whole self with such warmth, not even the heater or a cup of hot cocoa on a snowy day could make her feel that way.

Taeyeon’s fingers then touched Jessica’s arm, the back of Taeyeon’s hand sliding down her skin. “So soft.” It was barely above whisper. But it was just enough for the both of them to hear. Jessica’s eyes fluttered close, enjoying Taeyeon’s hand on her. She opened them when it stopped and got lost in Taeyeon’s dark pools.

Few beats of comfortable had passed.

“What’s stopping you?” Jessica’s question slipped out of her mouth. Bitterness pressing down her chest as the past reminded her of what Taeyeon did. Even now, the hesitation in Taeyeon’s eyes made her a little angry. Frustration seeped through her due to the silence that met her ears again. It didn’t help that Taeyeon was just staring at her emptily.

“What’s stopping you from talking to me anymore? Or look at me at least? You don’t even want to stand near me. Even the fans notice, jeez. What’s stopping you from being close to me anymore? What happened to us, Taeyeon?” Jessica went all out, forgetting all the nervousness before.

“Because I couldn’t stop myself from liking you back. It is out of my control.” The frustration in Taeyeon’s eyes mirrored Jessica’s.

Everything clicked right then. From Taeyeon’s reluctance to avoidance, Jessica realized it was the opposite of what she thought of Taeyeon. She had thought Taeyeon started to dislike her even after the girl confessed into liking her too.  She had thought it was a way for her to fall out of like. She had also thought that maybe Taeyeon started to like Tiffany. With all the fan craze and company’s marketing strategy push, it was almost believable.

The calm look returned on Taeyeon’s face.  A little smile pasted on her face, looking at Jessica lovingly. “Because if I look at you, I don’t think I could stop. If I’m near you, all I want to do is touch you. If I talk to you, I’m afraid that I’ll stare at your lips instead of your eyes.”

Jessica’s breath hitched and became self-conscious when Taeyeon’s gaze landed on her mouth. Her palms started to sweat. Heat radiated from both of their skins. It was almost intoxicating and addicting.

Subconsciously, Jessica mildly parted her lips and drew in a short breath. Slowly, and as her heartbeat quickened, Taeyeon inched closer to her. They were within kissing distance.

“You see.. I don’t think I could stop myself if I were to do it. I don’t think I would want to stop it at all.”

“Oh.” That was all Jessica could say. Even though there were a lot of things inside of her that she wished to scream out. “I have to wash my face.” She blurted out stupidly and without thinking. The close proximity had sent her mind whirling. She felt as though the room was spinning.

Taeyeon let out of a soft chuckle and said, “Go ahead before Icould kiss you.” She moved passed Jessica and leaned against the dressing table with her arms crossed. Just in simple position, Jessica found her sickeningly sexy. Taeyeon’s gaze trailed where Jessica moved.

Never had Jessica felt so self-conscious before. Shaking a little, she hit her knee on the bed post on her way to the bathroom. What was this? The ‘Taeyeon’ effect? The leader’s fans claimed. Or what was it just her being a klutz?

In the bathroom, after splashing cold water onto her face, she looked at herself in the mirror and waited for her heart to beat at a normal place. Her mind wandered off to what Taeyeon said until the sound of the door opening startled her out of her thoughts.

It was Taeyeon.

“What a sight.” The leader said and a contented sigh escaped her lips.

“What?” Jessica raised her brow, slightly annoyed for no reason. She shot her a glare.

“Nothing.”Taeyeon continued to stare at her in the mirror. Still very much at ease.

“You can. I mean, if you want.” Blush pink coloured Jessica’s cheeks. She dropped her gaze down at the sink, feeling suddenly shy.

“Can what?”

“What you wanted to do.” She never had the problem in being frank all the time. It helped in her most situations. But this time, it seemed the words were too scared to come out. “K-kiss-“

Gratefully, Jessica didn’t have to say it as Taeyeon took her by the shoulders and kissed her. Slowly and perfectly.Lips melding into each other’s. She hung her arms around her neck and closed in the distance between them. Warmth encircling around them.

About a minute later, they pulled away, catching their own breaths. Jessica let out a nervous laugh. Her cheeks felt hot. Her lips felt numbed. A smile trying to break free from her pursed lips.

But the look on Taeyeon’s face made her heart sank. It was a look of uncertainty and regret. “I-I-“ Taeyeon stared down at her own feet. Silence hung in between them again. Jessica was so confused at Taeyeon’s constant change of moods.

“I what?” Jessica said with an edge to her tone. Getting impatient, Jessica pulled down her shorts, took off her shirt and undergarments, leaving her completely bare. Taeyeon gasped. Her eyes filled with panic.

“What the hell, Jessica?” Taeyeon looked hard at her in the eyes. But Jessica knew that alone was an effort to keep up with. Who could actually resist a naked Jessica? No one. The redness that was slowly colouringTaeyeon’s cheeks confirmed Jessica’s winning.

“Join me.”

“What?”

“Shower with me.”

“I’ve showered.” Taeyeon began to look really flustered and willed herself to stare at the ceiling.

“You can shower again. What’s stopping you?” Jessica folded her arms over her chest.

“We have a flight to catch.”

“So..if we were to shower together, it’ll be really long?” Jessica smiled slyly, not caring about the cold on her skin.

“You’re making me crazy.” Taeyeon’s forehead furrowed. Her breathing went shallow. She turned around and walked out of the bathroom abruptly.

Maybe Jessica wasn’t going to win at all. She suddenly felt embarrassed. “Taeyeon?” Jessica called out carefully. She hugged herself. A deep ache pooling in her stomach.

Few seconds later, Taeyeon reappeared in the doorway. She spoke and a little smirk tugged at her lips, breaking all such tension in the room.

“I texted our manager that we’ll be taking the later flight. They can leave without us.”

“Are you saying..”

“A much later flight.” She pulled her shirt over her head. “Get in the shower. What’s stopping you?”
