I give it a thumbs up. Made by Tomas Alfredson, the Swedish director who shot 'Let the Right One In', his version of the story works the current fashion in Nordic film, a painstaking recreation of London in the 1970's and long slow takes where the characters can wallow in their misery and suffering. It's an atmospheric slice of Spy genre Cinema

How does it compare with the Alec Guinness series?

I didn't watch it, I was 11 at the time. It was probably on well past my bedtime. I understand the film is mostly faithful, changing some plot elements around.
