Time Travel

The last episode of Heroes made me confused. Someone explain this to me:

Let's say I can travel through time. I go back in time and kill my own mother before I am born. Since I was never born, I never existed. But if I never existed, I never killed her, so I was still born and do exist?

Or is it just that time travel actually doesn't make sense?

if you were to travel time you would be entering a different universe and killing your different universe mom and you, however since you are a you from somewhere else you are fine. i think that's how it works. you are traveling through time and through a different location in time.

ah thats how i see it!

like, for every second, theres another universe running that history, in which each decision can be different from what was made in all the other times.

but thats the common problem with the common time travel thoughts in stuff.
