Samantha loved spring.
She loved the smell of freshly mowed grass. She loved the small buds growing on all the plants. She loved how everybody felt rejuvenated.
She also loved that it was Track and Field meet season.
Not that Samantha was in Track and Field or anything. Maybe it had to do with the fact that Gabrielle was the school’s Track and Field star. She excelled at track and hurdling, javelin, discus, shot put (which freaked people out since she was rather small), amazing at the long and high jump events as well. Overall she was just amazing. And Samantha may have had a crazy crush on her too.
For one, Gabrielle was gorgeous. She stood at 5’7” with a small frame, bright mischievous golden eyes, a sexy smile and had short light brown hair that was usually slicked back. She had a nice toned body with an ass that filled out jeans. Also she had a wicked sense of humour, a sharp tongue for anybody who dared try themselves and a wonderful laugh that erupted often.
Sam had been crazy about the senior ever since she met her four years ago. Deanna, her older sister, befriended Gabrielle (and Gabrielle’s cousin Castiel) in her first year of high school. Samantha sighed, Gabrielle probably thought of her as Deanna’s stupid little sister. Well...not little anymore. For some reason, over the summer, Samantha shot up over a foot. Now she was 6’4” and she felt awkward. Thankfully, she filled out as well, but she felt like a massive version of a girl. Gabrielle was beautiful and could have anybody in the entire school, not some giant awkward girl that was two years younger than her.
Samantha sighed loudly, leaning back on the outdoor bleachers, watching as Gabrielle dressed in the school’s tanktop with her gym shorts getting ready to do a high jump.
“Stop that.” barked Deanna as she tried to slip another gold pearl on the needle that was connected to a small row of pearls on a strong transparent plastic thread. Sam groaned, turning her head to look at her sister. Deanna was also tall, standing at 6 feet herself. She was beautiful though. She just always looked really pretty and had pixie cut (insisting on keeping her hair short since it was ‘too much of a hassle when working on cars’), granted, both Winchester sisters kept their hair short. But Deanna couldn’t understand what she was going through, pondered Samantha. She had a boyfriend.
Speaking of
“Why are you here anyways? Don’t you usually spend tuesday afternoon watching Castiel’s practice?”
Deanna growled, before she winced, stabbing herself, once again, with the needle. “They banned all spectators from the swimteam’s practices!! Which is bullshit! I want to see Cas in his speedo!”
“...why?”
“Because a fucking bitch told a lewd comment to one of the swimmers and someone proceed to kick her ass for doing so!”
“DEANNA.”
“WHAT?!” growled Deanna “That bitch Meg Masters had no right yelling at Cas how fucking hot he looks in his speedo!!”
“You tell him that all the time!”
“HE’S MY BOYFRIEND”
Samantha sighed. A lot of people didn’t understand how a rough and brash girl like Deanna wind up with a reserved and polite boy like Castiel. But Samantha wasn’t surprised. Especially not when she witnessed how drawn to each other they were. They weirdly balance each other out and have been together for a year now.
“How did Cas take it anyways?”
Deanna sighed, obviously frustrated “À-la-Cas, he thanked her politely.”
Samantha laughed at that - but her laughter was cut short by the sound of the start up gun. Then her full attention was on Gabrielle
and watching her soar in the sky.
“You going to the Royal Ball?” asked Deanna as she continued to attempt to put pearls on her thread. The Royal Ball was the yearly spring dance. Every year they picked a theme, last year, it was Sci-Fi, Deanna and Castiel hooked up there, dressed as Spock and Kirk. This year, the theme was Royal Ball, so people were encouraged to come dressed like famous royal couples from whatever. Deanna was currently working on her costume.
Samantha shook her head, her view of Gabrielle unwavering. “No. I don’t have a date.”
“You should ask Gabrielle.”
Samantha froze, turning to look at Deanna for a moment, who was flashing her a knowing look. Samantha turned bright red and looked right back at Gabrielle. Oooh, she’s going for another jump. “That’s stupid. Who says she’s even into girls?”
“Uhh...the girlfriend she had for a year in sophmore year?”
Right. Kali. Samantha was thankful that they went to a really open minded school.
“I’m younger than her by 2 years.”
“And? She likes you, dude.”
“Says who?”
“For one, she keeps looking at you and smiling.”
Samantha froze. That was true! Gabriel did keep looking at Samantha and smiling, she even did a small jig once when Gabriel was waiting in line, eyes directly on her.
“She’s being polite.”
Deanna rolled her eyes “You’re being stupid. She doesn’t have a date either. You have nothing to lose. And I know that you had this crush on her, for like ever.”
Panic arose in Samantha’s face “You didn’t tell Cas, did you?!”
Deanna snorted “Yeah right. I love Cas with all my heart, but he doesn’t understand that certain things you don’t just say to people.”
“You mean like when Dad asked if you two had slept together yet - he said ‘Yes, multiple times’?”
Deanna groaned at the memory “Yeah, that’s my Cas. I’m surprised Dad didn’t kill him.”
There was a pause, and then Deanna sighed “You were really excited for this dance when it got announced. I’d hate to think you’re not going because of a technicality.”
That much was true. Samantha, if she was honest with herself, really wanted to go and dress up like a princess. And if she tried, she knew she could easily get herself a date. But she felt like she’d look ridiculous dressed like a princess though. Sam merely shrugged her shoulders as an answer.
Deanna sighed again. “So...topic change since you obviously don’t want to hear me crushing all of your pitiful excuses for not asking Gabrielle out, want to see what Cas gave me for our anniversary?”
Samantha blinked “Oh right, last year’s dance landed on today. How come he let you have it already?”
Deanna groaned, as she set her beads aside and ruffled through her bag, pulling out a small white box. “Cas has to work right after practice, so I won’t get to see him. So he gave it to me this morning.”
Samantha took the box, opening it and stared at the star locket inside “Holy shit. You two are the biggest nerds ever!”
Deanna grinned, taking the locket out and opening it, revealing that it played a melody. She was quiet as the music played, almost
in a daze as she had a fond smile on her face. “He must have paid like...easy 300$ for this.”
Samantha couldn’t help but feel the pang of jealousy. But then she grinned, elbowing Deanna “So, I’m pretty excited to see you two all dolled up in your costumes next week. Deanna in a dress and a long blonde wig.” Deanna snorted, smiling “I’m kinda really excited. I’ve always wanted to do this.” then her expression got serious “You should be there, Sammy. This is dumb. Mom wants to make you a costume too.” Sam sighed, but before she had a chance to say anything, Deanna blinked, looking at something past Samantha’s shoulder, turned to shove everything in her bag quickly and got up, running off. “See you at home, Sammy~!”
Before Samantha could say anything, she heard a voice behind her.
“Hey kiddo!”
Samantha whipped her head around and saw Gabrielle grinning at her, her hand stuffed in the pockets of her school letterman
jacket that she was wearing with her gym shorts. Samantha blinked, smiling nervously “H-Hey! What are you doing here?”
Gabrielle snorted, walking towards Samantha and sitting down besides her, with a grin on her face “I’m the one who should be asking you! You have no real reason to be here every day after school! Yet, here you are!”
Samantha turned bright red, her throat getting dry. Oh my god, what the hell can she say?! Gabrielle chuckled, moving in close to Samantha. “Don’t worry! I love that you come watch me! It’s like having my own fan! Actually...” there was a pause, and then a nervous look on Gabrielle’s face.
Samantha blinked, that was...unexpected. “Actually?”
Gabrielle smiled at Samantha “So....Deanna told me you didn’t have a date for the Royal Ball...and I was wonnnnnderring....Wanna go with me?”
This couldn’t be happening.
Nope.
Samantha’s eyes shot open “M-Me?! You want to go with me?!”
Gabrielle blinked, then smiled, raising a brow “Well, it’s you I asked.”
Samantha shook her head “Y...You should find someone..better.”
Gabrielle frowned, letting out a small growl. “What are you talking about?” Then she smiled, taking Samantha’s hand “You’re the
one I’m crazy about!”
“You’re...You’re crazy about me?...But...I’m so...” then Samantha gestured to herself. Gabrielle grinned “You mean, absolutely
beautiful? With beautiful eyes, a warm inviting smile that lights up the room? A wonderful laugh that gives you butterflies? Long legs that go on forever? An amazing ass, sorry, had to say it, amazing curves and, let’s not forget, absolutely amazing hair? Who’s wonderful, and kind, and really smart and just all around beautiful?”
Samantha sputtered, turning bright red. “W-What?!” Gabrielle chuckled softly, giving Samantha’s hand a squeeze. “So? Yes? Go to the dance with me?”
Samantha smiled brightly, nodding “Yes! I’d love to!”
Gabrielle let out a happy cry, pumping her fist in the air, and then took both of Samantha’s hands in her own, holding them up “Oh awesome!! So, I have an awesome idea for our costumes! Want to go as Rapunzel and Flynn from Tangled?”
“Sounds great!” The idea was wonderful to Samantha. She loved that movie so much! But there goes her dream to be the princess...
“Awesome! So, I know this Drag King, and he’s showing me this kickass way for me to give myself some facial hair and the-”
“Wait, what? You want to do Flynn?”
Gabrielle blinked, surprised by the question, then gave Samantha a come-hither smile “C’mon. I’m perfect don’t you think?”
Samantha grinned brightly, then she frowned for a moment “I can be Flynn if you want to be Rapunzel though”
Gabrielle smiled, shaking her hand “Nope! No way! You’ll be the perfect Rapunzel! I was thinking we do end of the movie one,
okay? I thought she looked just like you and since then I’ve been dying to see you dressed up as her!”
Samantha couldn’t believe what she was hearing. It was almost like this was a dream.
-----------------------------
When Samantha got home that night, she was floating on cloud nine. She went in the living room and found Deanna standing in the middle of the room, wearing a long white, two layered dress. Their mother, Mary was currently attaching the string of pearls around Deanna’s waist, right below her chest, on the dress. Samantha couldn’t get over how beautiful her sister looked in that dress. Samantha walked into the room, Deanna lifted a brow, smiling. “Mom? Do you think you’d have time to make another costume? I’ll help as much as I can!”
Mary froze, then turned, smiling brightly. “You got yourself a date! Oh Samantha! Darling, of course I will! What are you going as?!
Who are you going with?!”
Oh no.
Samantha froze. She never came out to her mother!
Deanna smiled at her encouragingly, twirling her wrist, telling her to carry on.
“Umm...Gabrielle.”
Mary let out a happy sound, clapping her hands “Ah! About time!”
Samantha’s face dropped. “...Why...Why are you not surprised that I’m going out with a girl?”
Deanna gave Samantha a flat look “Jessica, Madison and Ruby.” Samantha turned bright red as Mary and Deanna snorted and laughed.
Mary chuckled softly “You’re never really discreet when you have a crush on someone. But don’t worry, your father and I support you as long as you’re happy. Now, what costume are we making?”
Samantha grinned “Rapunzel! But her look at the end of the movie!”
Deanna laughed “Not surprised, Gabrielle couldn’t stop saying how much you look like her at the end of the movie! Man, she’s been crazy about you for ever now!”
“WHAT?! You knew?!”
Deanna grinned “Sure did, but it wasn’t my place to tell you.”
Samantha smiled. The ball was going to be awesome.
---------------------------------------
And it was.
Castiel came to pick up Deanna, all decked out in his prince outfit and drove Deanna (much to her dismay, since she wanted to take the Impala) to the dance. Gabrielle came to pick up Samantha in her candy red mustang. Gabrielle looked amazing.
Samantha felt so pretty in her beautiful purple dress. Once they arrived at the dance, Gabrielle grabbed her arm right before they went in. “Wait a minute.” She then fiddled in her satchel and pulled out a tiara, carefully placing it on Samantha’s head. “Now you
look perfect. Just like the princess.”
Samantha then grabbed Gabrielle and pulled her into a kiss, which Gabrielle instantly kissed back - hard. They kept kissing softly before they heard a loud wolf whistle.
They broke apart only to see Deanna holding up a camera, taking a picture of both of them. Samantha bitchfaced at Deanna and Gabrielle laughed, pulling on Samantha’s wrist “C’mon, kiddo! Let’s go dance!”
It was now time for their storybook romance to start.
