Chapter 18: Michael demands Dean comes over for Sunday dinner. Too bad he's still an asshole.

Castiel saying he was nervous was the understatement of the century. After Michael and everyone else went back to the meeting, Castiel apologized profusely to Dean, feeling horrible for putting him in that situation. But perfect as Cas believed him to be, Dean said it was nothing and hugged him. After that turbulent morning, no more parties were had at the Novak Estate during that week. If anything, Sam and Cas mostly worked on their projects or everybody just hung out. Now, it was Sunday, the last day of March Break and not only was everybody home - Michael had forced him to invite Dean over for Sunday Dinner. Sunday Dinner was the only time Castiel actually saw his entire family, so this was a pretty big deal and he was nervous as hell.

What Castiel didn’t know is that Dean was also nervous as hell. He had never done this before. Even when he dated Lisa, he had avoided the ‘parents’ as much as possible. Dean was a family man at heart and personally he could never date someone his parents didn’t like - so, he was always afraid of that swift judgment that people usually did to him. Even though he couldn’t give two fucks what Michael thought of him, because a) the guy was Cas’ brother and b) a total fucking jackass who apparently never got laid because he’s such a fucking stiff and should maybe get himself a hooker and calm the fuck down. But, he did play a hand in raising Castiel, so he should at least try to not antagonize the guy. And frankly, Dean was a little curious. Castiel was the youngest of 7 kids and he’s only really met Gabriel, Lucifer and Michael. And apparently the hot girl was named Anna.

So, here he was now, standing at the door, dressed in a nice black button up shirt, tucked into his dress pants. His mother may have helped him pick an outfit. He wanted to bring a bottle of wine, but these were chichi rich folks. So, instead, Mary insisted of making a pie for dessert. He had the best mom. When he rang the doorbell, it took seconds for Castiel’s smiling face to emerge. And then Castiel paused, eyes wide and gave Dean the up and down. “Hey, I...I brought pie? My mom made it?” and next thing Dean knows, the door was slammed shut, the pie was removed from his hands and set aside, and he had Castiel’s fingers in his hair, gripping him tight and Castiel kissing him deeply. Dean smirked; guess he looked pretty damn good! They spent a few moments devouring each other’s face until the door reopened and Michael stood there growling at them. Well that killed the mood. When they broke apart, Dean saw Castiel roll his eyes and Dean was surprised to see that Castiel was also well dressed, in a white button up, black dress pants and a deliciously tailor fitted black vest. Yeah, that was coming off at one point tonight. “I’m making supper tonight.” started Castiel, as he brought the pie into the kitchen. “Need any help?” offered Dean, obviously trying to put off meeting everyone. Castiel smiled, leaning up on Dean and kissing him softly. “You’ll do fine, love.” Dean groaned, laying his head on Castiel’s shoulder. Castiel chuckled softly, dropping a soft kiss on Dean’s hair. “Just relax.”

Suddenly, two black guys walked into the kitchen, one was burly and bald and the other one had a smaller built and closely shaved black hair. “Is this him?” asked the smaller one, rather annoyed. Dean lifted his head and blinked, surprised. “…Cas?” Castiel smiled nervously “This is Uriel and Raphael.” Dean blinked; Cas had motioned to the bigger one when he said Uriel. Alright. So Dean stuck out his hand “Hey, I’m Dean, nice meeting you.” Uriel looked at the hand in disgust, rolling his eyes and chuckling as he turned around and left the room. Raphael snorted, turning around and leaving as well. “Call us when it’s time for supper, Castiel. We will be upstairs with Michael and Lucifer working out the merger.” Dean stood there, with his hand out for a moment before retracting it. “Wow, umm, your brothers are…well.” “Assholes? The word you’re looking for is assholes.” “I was going to say black. But assholes fit too.” Castiel couldn’t help but smile when he saw the smirk on Dean’s face. “My father had four wives. With the first wife, he had Michael, Lucifer and Anna, and cancer took her away. Afterwards, he married Uriel and Raphael’s mom, Uriel is the younger of the two, by the way, and she died in a car accident. After he married Gabriel’s mom, she killed herself when he was 6, and after he married my mom and well, as you know, she died at childbirth.” Dean blinked, slightly horrified. “Holy shit. I was wondering why you didn’t look that much like your siblings.” “Well, from the photos of my mom I have, I seem to look more like her.” Dean had a sly grin on his face “Guess your mom was gorgeous, huh?” Castiel turned bright red, and then shooed Dean out of the kitchen.

Dean walked into the living room, nervous as hell, but then he spotted Gabriel lounging on the couch. Oh good, he could relax a bit. He nodded at Gabriel who nodded back and Dean sat down on the couch. Gabriel threw a skittle in his mouth from the bowl of them he had besides him. “See you met Uriel and Raphael.” “Yeah, they’re uhh…” “Assholes, the word is assholes.” Dean chuckled a bit, and then ran his hand through his hair. “Why do I feel like I’m going to die.” “Probably because Michael is after your blood.” Dean paused “He’s what?!” Gabriel let out a small laugh “Oh ho ho, you have no idea how badly Michael wants you dead right now!” Dean frowned, slumping down on the couch “Why does he want me dead? For dating Cas?” Gabriel took a handful of skittles “More like, for ruining the image he made himself of Castiel. You see, Castiel is the baby of the family, Michael is 18 years older than he is. And Castiel, to him, was this perfect little studious angel who could do no wrong! Like, he was this image of chastity. But we both know that Castiel is this cynical, snarky thing, but Michael really believed this ideal of Castiel. So, when he caught you two naked in bed, all of his illusions shattered. Castiel was angry and for the first time in his life, told Michael where to go. So, Michael blames you for destroying his little angel. You’re fucked.” Dean groaned, throwing his head back and closing his eyes. Then after a little while, Dean spoke up again. “Hey. Look. I need to talk to you about Sammy.” Gabriel stiffened, looking straight ahead, pretending to keep watching tv. “Alright. About what?” Dean frowned “You know what.” Gabriel sighed. “Alright, but before you do, I want to be extremely clear that I did not push Sam into this and I will only go as far as he’s comfortable and I will never force him to do anything he’s not ready for.” Dean nodded “And if you hurt him, I’m coming after you.” Gabriel smirked “I could say the same to you.” “Alright then. I hurt Cas, I hope you make sure that I never ever forget it.” “Deal.”

They kept watching tv, exchanging small talk (apparently, Dean had seen a play that Gabriel did in high school!) and then Anna came down the stairs. Dean blinked, kinda surprised to see that she was wearing a dress. One that particularly heightened her boobs. Pretty sure you don’t usually wear that to church. Anna smiled, coming to sit besides Dean. “Hello again, Dean.” Dean smirked “Hey, I’m surprised you recognized me with clothes on.” Anna smiled “There was just something about you that’s hard to… forget.” She then gave Dean the up and down. “I have to say, you look just as good with clothes on as you do with it off.” “ANNA, WHAT THE FUCK!” Dean sighed in relief, thank god for Castiel. That was awkward. Castiel stood there, obviously furious. “I can hear you from the kitchen! You hit on my boyfriend again I will rip your hair out, you understand me?!” Dean smiled brightly, holy shit, possessive Cas was really hot. But before anything could continue, Michael came down the stairs. “Castiel. Is dinner ready?” Castiel nodded, giving Anna the stink eye. “Yes.”

Saying that the tension was extremely thick at dinner was the understatement of the year. Michael is glaring at Dean while Dean himself is enjoying small talk with Castiel and Gabriel. That is, until Michael decided to put an end to that. “What do you exactly?” asked Michael, still glaring. “I’m a mechanic at Singer-Harvelle’s garage.” Michael snorted “I see. How old are you anyways?” “I’m 21.” “Any intentions of getting a post-secondary education?” “Not really, no. I wanted to be a mechanic and I learned things much better by doing it.” Castiel smiled brightly “Dean also restores cars! It’s absolutely amazing!” Dean blushed a bit, not expecting the sudden ego stroking. “I see. So, let me understand this correctly. You are 21 years old, a mechanic.” Dean did not appreciate the way Michael said ‘mechanic’ “Who’s idea of a skill is restoring vehicles that shouldn’t be on the road anyways.” Dean’s face turned red, he twitched, trying to control himself. “Well, not how I’d put it, but yes.” Michael snorted, feeling superior, and then he snarled. “So, the only reason you are dating is because my brother is naïve enough to think you actually have feelings for him when the truth is that you just want to ride the gravy boat. I thought so.” Uriel, Lucifer and Raphael all snorted. Anna gasped quietly, shocked. Gabriel’s expression was of pure disgust towards Michael. Castiel turned a dark red, absolutely furious. But it was Dean who spoke up first, calmly. “Listen to me, you pompous jackass. Say whatever the hell you want about me, I could not care less what you think of me.” Then his tone turned angrier “But if you ever insinuate that Castiel is a naïve idiot again, you will regret it. I will not stand here and listen to you insult Castiel, you understand me?!” Michael looked shocked. “What did you say to me, boy?!” Castiel then stood up “Now it’s my turn, you egotistical, narrow minded - assbutt! How dare you insult Dean like this! If you actually took the time to get to know people you’d know that Dean is one of the most hardworking and loyal person in the world! He’s with me because he loves me! He doesn’t even give a shit about my money! If you had actually paid attention and asked me about Dean, I would have told you that on our dates, he insists on paying! So before you make wild accusations maybe you should actually take the goddamn time to talk to me!” And then he grabbed Dean’s arm and stormed out.

Dean was surprised to have been taken to the back of the Estate. But, the odd thing, it wasn’t the back he was used to. Saying that the Novak Estate was massive was an understatement. The area with the pool was actually on the side of the Estate; Dean had never really been to the back. And he was shocked to see that it was actually a massive garden. It was an old fashioned English garden and it was absolutely massive and extremely dense. Castiel was taking him down a small stone path, illuminated by soft lights on the ground. It was magical even. He wasn’t surprised when he saw this beautiful wooden sign on one of the boulders that said “Garden of Eden”. Once they were deep enough, in an area that seemed to be a small resting area, with a beautiful wooden bench and a small fountain behind him. Castiel sighed, collapsing on the bench. Dean quickly sat down next to him and pulled him into a hug. “I’m really sorry, Dean. I knew this would happen, I should have never agreed, I’m so-“ Dean quickly cut him off with a soft kiss. They kept kissing for a little while, Castiel gripping tightly onto Dean’s dress shirt, almost afraid that that Dean was about to leave or something. When they finally came up for air, Dean pressed his forehead against Castiel’s. “Look, remember what I told you when we first met? I still mean it. You’re you, the dorky trekky that I feel in love with, I’m never going to judge you on your family, okay?” Castiel nodded, still clinging onto Dean. “I still feel terrible.” “Don’t. I love you and I’ll do it a million times again for you.”

“Now isn’t this just romantic.”

Dean and Castiel jumped. They spotted an older man appeared from one of the paths, holding a canister of water. Castiel smiled fondly at the man “Joshua! I had no idea you were here!” Joshua nodded, walking up to the two. “Yeah, I was going to join the supper tonight, but I ran into Gabriel who warned me of Michael’s intentions. I’m very happy to see that Michael didn’t deter this man. You seem like a very good man, and you seem to be very good to Castiel.” Dean smiled softly, that somehow made him feel really good. “Oh! Dean, this is Joshua, he’s an old friend of the family, my father and Joshua grew up together and remained close friends. Joshua, this is my boyfriend Dean.” Joshua stuck out his hand; Dean smiled, shaking it happily. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, sir.” Joshua chuckled. “The feeling is mutual.” Dean couldn’t stop smiling now “So, what brings you here so late?” “Joshua tends to the garden. Joshua and my father started this garden when my father first bought the Estate, even though he’s gone, Joshua keeps working on it.” explained Castiel, Joshua just smiled. “It was a project we had together, figured I’d keep it up, heaven knows that nobody else would, especially when Castiel here wasn’t old enough to do all of the heavy work by himself. The old coot still asks about it too.” Dean froze “Wait…You talk to Castiel’s dad?!” Castiel nodded “Joshua is the only one he comes in contact with.” Joshua sighed “I tell him to call his children, but instead all he does it call me on untraceable numbers.” Dean frowned “Hey, next time you talk to him, you tell him that if I ever see him, I’m going to punch him in the face for what he did to Castiel!” Castiel gasped “Dean!” Joshua blinked and then burst into a fit of laughter. “I like him! He’s got spirit and defends you! You have definitely found yourself someone worth holding onto, Castiel.” Castiel smiled softly at Dean, lacing their hands. “I know.”
