Admittedly I know next to nothing about makeup, but I had heard that one should throw stuff out every X amount of time (18 months sticks in my mind), for reasons of bacteria and such. May want to check on that?

Depends on what kind of makeup it is. Most of my stuff is powder (which pretty much lasts forever) and lipstick/lipgloss (which is fine until it starts smelling weird. Reports like "throw it out after 6 months" in these cases are merely the industry wanting to sell you more product. Liquid makeup, face creams, mascara--definite expiration date. And of course, makeup brushes need to be cleaned regularly.

Yeah, but it's embarassing to have all this boring barely-useful knowledge D= XD
