The Dark Knight: 4 out of 5 asterices

Jul 18, 2008 23:11

it I felt like I was going to get slapped when The Dark Knight ended an hour ago and I wasn't as ecstatic as my friends -- not to mention everyone else within earshot of me -- about how good it was.  It was very good, but isn't it okay that I can have some negative criticisms about it?  I am not an animal!

So this review is addressed directly to my ( Read more... )

i cannot disagree with your assessments. (though i'd say 4.5 out of 5 something-or-others).

i just got home from seeing it and i'm already eagerly awaiting the moment i can see it again (i'm aiming for IMAX next time though!).

and yes...the disappearing pencil trick was quite special!

I saw it again yesterday...It's playing at the IMAX here near Dulles, but that's a ridiculous haul for us. A group is doing it next week, but having just seen it twice in a couple of days I'm going to sit it out. It might come to one of the closer IMAX theaters in a month or so (which I expect it to, since it just destroyed the opening weekend record and word of mouth is going to be overwhelmingly positive) in which case I'll hit that.

yeah, Heath Ledger was amazing as the joker. at one point I leaned over to Jes and commented about how good he was and it did make me sad that we won't see anymore from him. I felt like there were a few scenes that didn't need to be in the movie, but I understand what they were going for.

I love the whole scene in the interrogation room more than chocolate. I think that and the introduction of the Batpod are my two favorite things in the movie.

Bale & Ledger in 'The Dark Knight' are the new Pacino & DeNiro in 'Heat'.

Ledger was amazing.

My friend James and I agreed that we didn't think it was as good as Batman Begins, in terms of story, but that the "first" one was so surprisingly good that this one perhaps suffered from too much hype and raised expectations.

That being said, it was very good in its own right and certainly is more about the excellent characters than the plot or effects, which is rare for this kind of movie. I sincerely hope Bale & Nolan & Co. sign on for a third one, though I cannot see how anyone could replace Ledger.

I'm glad I'm not the only once on or near an internet that still liked Begins more, whilst still enjoying this one. Maybe it's just the IMD-damn-b, with their ruthless fanaticisms.

Happy Spaced Eve!

crazy talks of who'd be the Joker... yeah_its_dave July 22 2008, 00:15:13 UTC
so in Harry Knowles' review over at aintitcool.com, he says how Heath Ledger kinda put a dare out there to the acting community for someone to try and top him... going on about how they could still reuse the Joker in future installments (though not the next one, to space it out and all that jazz) but someone would have to be up to the challenge thrown down by Heath.

as much as i'll miss Ledger not being able to revisit the Joker in any potential follow-ups in this series...it definitely raises an interesting question (although it's one i hope they don't let get answered by ways of simply leaving the Joker out of the future films) as to who would or more, who could fill those shoes...

that crazy bastard Knowles suggested Javier Bardem. which gets a quick "NO!" from me. i haven't though of anyone yet...but it'll brew in the back of my mind for a while i think, just for shits and giggles.

you got any suggestions?

I think they should just say that the Joker escaped from prison and disappeared, and have him never turn up again the Nolan/Bale series.

If by some miscarriage of justice they do decide to recast at some point, then yes, no, Javier Bardem would be pretty wrong. What about Sam Rockwell?

Rockwell.

Damn.

I doubt I'll be able to think of anyone better, good call!

His face already looks kind of like the traditional Joker from the comics even without makeup, and he can play humorously dangerous psycho pretty well (as in The Green Mile)...

(had to change up my user pic for this one...)
