So, I'd like to point out that the skills system, and the prestiege class systems actually came out for AD&D 2nd edition. I'm not sure if they were official or just favored mods that people who were later hired into TSR had written... but I definitely played AD&D 2nd edition with the Skills&Powers "expansion" and had an assassin-y prestiege class... and all of that came from a book-like entity that my DM had downloaded and printed out, which had 100-150+ pages. This was all around 1998-2002, so we technically had the Skills&Powers thing before 3.0 came out in 2000. I vaguely remember it coming out and my DM commenting that although it looked interesting he wasn't going to transfer us to it because he liked ADD 2nd well enough.
