Just a little drabble for the
avoidmynose Rachel/Lea Comment Ficacthon. The prompt was Will/Rachel, he doesn't understand how he can be jealous of a teenage boy. This was written quickly but I would love to know what you think!
He thinks it's silly - ridiculous actually - that he could be jealous of a teenage boy. But he is. What makes it even more absurd is that it was his idea for Rachel to date the boy in the first place.
It is the summer before her senior year when everything changes. Will and Rachel had been working together throughout the summer to come up with a plan to make Glee its best, so they could make it to nationals and win. She made it clear that they had to win. One day, they are at a coffee shop discussing the pros and cons of a song she proposed when he realizes his feelings for her had changed. He has feelings for her - strong, romantic feelings. It freaks him out but he doesn't run.
She mentions it first. She asks him one day, when they are at his apartment, what's happening between them. She notices it too. He eventually tells her how he feels but is adamant about nothing happening until she graduates and turns 18. Rachel says she will wait.
But as the school year starts, Will feels horrible. Their pseudo-relationship is keeping her from being a teenager; so, when a new student joins Glee and shows interest, Will pushes her to date him. He tells her that she needs to be sure of what she feels. Rachel reluctantly agrees but soon finds herself questioning whether or not Will is the best thing for her.
So, he watches them. Watches them sing together. Watches them dance. Watches the boy kiss her when she does something particularly adorable. It makes him sick to his stomach to see them together. And he hates that a teenage boy can make him feel utterly inadequate.
Rachel and the boy break up several months later, just before regionals. Will holds her in his arms as she cries, clinging to him. She sniffles as she pulls back and looks up at him. He's confused when she apologizes, and says as much. She tells him she's sorry for even thinking that there might be someone better for her than him. He kisses her forehead and pulls her close, smiling. He can't understand why he was ever jealous of a teenage boy because they both know that, really, there was never any competition.
