Have you read Prime yet? It's a really beautiful follow-up to Liquor!

No I haven't read Prime yet but that's mostly cause I don't have any money right now to go out and buy it... I want to badly though!

Not trying to be an a-hole, but does it matter to you that PZB has said she strongly prefers not to have fanfic written about her characters, esp. those she is still writting about herself?

No it doesn't really matter to me... People are still going to write fanfics useing an authors characters... That's just something that authors have to get used to. ^_^

No, actually they don't have to get used to it. Fanfic is technically plagiarism and the author can make you take it down if they want to. This isn't a value judgment on your fiction, it's just a fact of copyright - the characters do not belong to you and you are not legally entitled to publish material about them. If you do anyway, it's by the grace of the author. Some authors are flattered by fanfic and encourage it. Some wage war against it and threaten to sue anyone who writes the stuff. PZB apparently chooses not to be an a-hole about it, but has said she finds it distasteful and intrusive. However you slice the cheese, I guess I don't understand why you would want to use an author's characters when you know they prefer you wouldn't.
