5_neversTotal: ~750
Notes: I am dedicating this to
fuyu_ginga. Also, this is my first time with the whole "5 nevers".
1. Claudia Jean
She's a "pretty" lady. "Pretty" tall, "pretty" smart, "pretty" mouthy and you like that about her.
You meet running a campaign for a useless man and seal a friendship buying drinks the night you lose. You kiss her by accident that night and it's the last time you do such a thing (she was special and you met Andy three months too soon). She can't find the appeal in your sad eyes, but finds it in your brother, David, who dropped his dreams of being an astronaut and instead became a doctor (He was always the favorite Ziegler).
They're happy and it somehow makes its way onto you, ruining your long run of never smiling. When they get married you pray for that kind of satisfaction for you and Andy. They move to California because the weather is nicer and you miss them.
2. Andrea Wyatt
Somewhere between night and morning you hand her a ring. You give an awkward speech about how much you love her and she laughs, finding you adorable, and substitutes her speech with a kiss. You wake up naked with her by your side.
She doesn’t buy a dress and you don’t buy a tux, just arrive in a court room. It's quick and easy, and you think that it would be a good excuse when C.J. calls (angry) about why she wasn't informed sooner.
When she does finally give you a ring, you forget your elaborate story of how both you and Andy were too busy with work to plan for a grand event in honor of the marriage. It's all because C.J. yells at you. She yells at you for hurting her and upsetting your brother. She accuses you of shutting them out of your life. She's angry at Andy for not telling her either.
You don't have a chance to tell her the truth; she hangs up too soon.
3. The Divorce
You're not sure when it started to fall apart. You assume it's when she wanted children but was not granted her need. You think it's when you grew tired of the battle; too many doctors, too many 'what-ifs' and procedures. You tough it out because you still love her but you are afraid she blames you and you're afraid she doesn't love you back.
C.J. calls you, even though she let a year go by, and you think that is why, when you said "Hello?", she started sobbing. You're wrong and you can feel her shake through the phone as she informs you her divorce papers came today.
It's shocking and as she tells you about what seemed to have gone wrong with her marriage, you walk into your bedroom to see your wife sleeping.
She is curled up with your pillow.
She looks happy and you are surprised that you thought your marriage would end first.
4. Bartlet For America
It's your first winning campaign, you're proud but you don't stay long and give Sam Seaborn a list of names to choose from for his deputy. C.J. is thankful you told her about Bartlet and you are happy to see her so alive. She loves D.C. and she loves working. You forgot that having no life was the only way she could be content with it.
When Andy wins a seat in Congress some odd months later, you pick up New York and move to the District. Life was good then and it seemed to get even better when you find out you were finally going to be a father. To twins.
You learn from you mistakes and C.J. is the first person to find out about the pregnancy (she nearly makes you deaf with the squeal she emits).
You're lucky too; the story broke about a week later.
5. Huck and Molly Ziegler
They make you happy and that’s saying too much.
You never saw yourself a family man, and yet here you are, picking up toys and making silly faces (you will do anything to make them giggle). Huck turned out to be a big momma's (and C.J.'s) boy. Molly seemed to be drawn to you and drawn to the more serious of activities. She was a smart little girl.
They leave after high school to San Francisco and Massachusetts. Molly becomes a well known therapist; she is sought after and moves to France where she writes a book. Huck moves about the world as an artiest.
They never miss a holiday.
They have never disappointed you.
