well first of all, just look at them. theyre gibson, which is a very nice company. they have two really nice pickups (humbuckers) ones a 490 alnico, and the other ones a 498 alnico. theyre both made of really nice wood. the SG has a relatively thick neck with jumbo frets, while the explorer's neck is slightly thinner. the fret inlays are pearl, and the SG has 24 frets. the most noticeable thing is that they SOUND SO GOOOOD. if you played a mexican standard strat, and then played either one of these guitars, these ones would deliver a much fatter, meatier, yet crisp and clean sound. Not to mention they deal better with distortion. the only drawback i would have to say is that instead of burning a hole right through the wallet, they would burn a hole right through your body.
