So I've decided to do NaNoWriMo... which leads to the question

WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO WRITE A NOVEL ABOUT!?!?

I have spent the past few days brainstorming and everything I've come up with would make a truly excellent short story, but I cannot for the llife of me come up with something that I would actually be able to write 50,000 words about ( Read more... )

Don't sweat it. I mean, 50,000 words is more of a novella anyways.

H'okay, so, this year I managed to turn someone on to NaNoWriMo who I work with, which is awesome because I work with him so we can actually rant together in real life throughout November. Anyway, point being that his story is going to be a series of anecdotes and memories from his own life, tied together with a surrealistic spin, or so I understand it. You could do something similar-- I know you have a lot of anecdotes!

This is a great way to find stories you didn't know you had. Just start writing about something that once happened to you, give it a couple of twists, deepen the conflicts, and change a couple things about the main character so that she's not entirely you. Then explore her a little, see what she's like.

Repeat as necessary for the next 50,000 words. Presto, your life is fictionalized.

Just FYI, I HATE November, so seeing your posts about this has inspired me to try it to. Anything to make November go by faster. Good luck!
