We're so excited! The BR crew is going to be so thrilled, and Sophie will be good at getting this distributed to people far outside the techno world,which I know is important to you. You know it's funny as I was reading this post I realizd that I never think of you in terms of gender... is that weird? Mel said you're still in Binghamton- I thought you were just going to be there a week or two. Can we send you anything- Sympathy card? Fruit basket? Rescue helicopter?

one of many reasons that it is a very fine thing that Sophie is in the world. and no, the fact that you don't think of me in terms of gender isn't the slightest bit strange: almost every person i've ever met has, at one point or another, said something along those lines. (that this is so seems rather telling, but of what, precisely, is a bit more complex.) i am indeed still in The Dreadful Place (did Mel mention the geography incident?); i supposed that it were better to get as much done as possible this visit, so that i'll have less to do over the summer. it's primarily books in storage hanging me up so terribly. i begin with the best of intentions -- "i will quickly and efficiently sort these boxes of books into 'keep' and 'give' stacks"; six hours later looks upon a scene of flagrant intellectual hedonism, as i lie sprawled on the floor reading What Is Philosophy and The Thief's Journal simultaneously while writing pageafterjouissancepage in a glowing torrent of ecstasy. thus far: Keep stack: 627.

So you ended up having to post a feminist screenplay announcement from a town where "feminist" professors buy a second SUV because the first 'wasn't enormous enough' and "feminist" female grad students snipe at other women's lack of makeup. Hallmark should really make a specific sympathy card for that.
