Someone posted about the Atkins diet in the Veganpeople livejournal community!

It appears there is a troll!

Well he only did it in response to me going into the Atkins community. Is a troll someone who does it to stir up anger or whatever? I'd say he came in as a troll but I went into Atkins without intention of being a troll. My bad.

But he is very nice and willing to talk in a completely rational manner.

I think a troll IS someone who does it to stir up anger/arguing. I think that people get angry at trolls because they're being forced to think and also come up with evidence if they choose to acknowledge the troll.
It's good that he came in and spoke rationally and provided detailed/knowledgable responses, however, I think one of the vegans responding to his post was a troll because he/she wasn't being polite to him as he was being to the community.

the veganpeople community seems to be one where more spirited discussions occur. It's a pity there aren't more communities like that out there.

Thanks! The old community vegan_people was similar because the moderator was never around. I made a new community for that reason, but lizdefiance and I don't want to ban anyone from the community or delete posts. After all, we are all old enough to handle situations aren't we? We agreed that the only situation in which we would delete posts, mind you not ban someone, is if they filled up the whole page with stupid posts just in order to fill up the page, if that makes sense.

It's important to learn to deal with eachother. It doesn't help anyone to split up into camps and not allow others to enter... though I did create a community where only vegans could be as a safe place. I no longer run it, but having both a place to hide and a totally inclusive place seems good to me.
