It's quite simple. You should exchange passwords on livejournal's private messenger. It takes the hassle out of using/getting an instant messenger system.
Once you log into the new account, change the email immediately. Even if the person you exchanged with is reliable, it's extremely annoying for that other person to keep getting email updates on a journal name that's not even theirs anymore.
