Interview with Toshiko Sato. Concluded.
"So you went along with the plans of an alien computer program, activated a potentially hostile piece of machinery with only his word as to what it would do, let an alien technology interface with confidential Torchwood computer files and technology and then tried to knock out everyone in the hub."
"That seems about right."
"You admit it?"
"Yep. You know what? I haven't slept for days I have had to see things no one should have to see, I have been locked in my own workplace alone with crazy sex obssessed Welsh people and aliens and I had had enough. I don't care if we did accidentally knock out a school party who were walking across the plaas at the time of the discharge, it was worth it. If you want to reprimand me that's fine. If you want to fire me go ahead, just make sure you retcon me thoroughly on the way out because I don't want to remember half of this stuff!!"
"........"
"Thank you for your time. You may go home now, there's a car waiting outside, they'll drop you off. Um... take a few days off, be back in the office bright and early on Monday."
"Thanks. Oh, can you tell Jack I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For being too late."
Interview ends.
******************************************
"Ianto no!" Jack tried to lunge forwards off the couch but his legs collapsed on him, sending him to the floor as Ianto grinned and pulled the trigger, all three men wincing as the contact was made.
Silence.
Ianto chuckled and flipped the gun around in his hand, holding the grip out to the Time Lords. "It's disabled. Just a toy now." He looked over at Jack with a small grin. "It's the gun I shot Owen with. Tosh suggested we frame it as a reminder to everyone that I am not just a tea boy." Jack's heart was racing, his mind frantically trying to keep up with what was going on and failing miserably.
"What?" Ianto shrugged and stepped back away from them all, putting the safety back on the dead weapon.
"It's safe. I could never have shot him." Jack was bemused as he slowly got to his feet, walking over to Ianto slowly.
"You.... All along. You were lying to us. You..... You!" He wrapped his arms around Ianto in relief, laughing as the tension left the room. "You.... git!" Ianto laughed and kissed him tenderly.
"I did warn you not to mess with me." The Doctor was laughing too now, the Master joining in as he got to his feet, none of them noticing the whine in the air.
"So. You were just playing with us." Ianto turned to face the Master, his face serious again as he picked up on a change in the smile, the edge of danger to it.
"Yes. And you enjoyed it." The Master's smile quirked slightly as he flexed his fingers.
"You want to play games with me little boy?" Jack moved in front of Ianto, shielding him from the advancing Time Lord, hoping the drug would kick in again soon and distract him from murder in favour of some other pursuit that didn't involve anyone dying. Ianto stood his ground behind Jack, staring back at the ancient being and not letting himself be intimidated. Jack shook his head slightly, something annoying buzzing in his ears...
"I wasn't playing games, I was serious." The Master raised an eyebrow as he came closer, standing chest to chest with Jack as he kept himself between them. The Doctor had his hands over his ears as he lay on the floor, shaking his head too, a confused look on his face. The Master and Ianto also looked slightly distracted now but continued their battle.
"You know the problem with playing with the big boys? There's a risk you're going to get hurt..." He pushed hard at Jack, sending them both tumbling backwards into the water, Ianto hitting his head on the bottom as he fell. Jack took a glancing blow to the head off the side, causing stars to swim before his eyes as he splashed into water again, Ianto pinned beneath him and losing consciousness. Jack fought against blackness as his head span and he twisted in the water, trying to lift Ianto out of the pool, aware that his eyes were closed and bubbles were streaming from his nose as he sank like a stone. The Master simply watched, even as he bent over slightly, grabbing his head as the whine built rapidly now. Jack could hear the noise even through the water but ignored it as he slid himself under Ianto, trying to raise him out of the water so he could breathe. The noise in his head was driving him crazy as he tried to stay conscious. He needed to make sure Ianto was safe... With a final wrench he slid the unconscious man up onto his own chest, his head above water and sighed with relief as he saw his chest start to rise and fall again and could feel him breathing. But Jack's own head was slipping below the water now as the noise in his head became unbearable. He could feel himself passing out, could feel water starting to flow into his mouth as he sank below the water....
