I just checked on Matt's IMDB, and it does indeed list this documentary something he narrated. I didn't realize he was doing this, either. I watched the trailer and thought it sounded like him, but that very well could have been because I was expecting it to. Maybe if I hadn't known he was narrating, I wouldn't have caught it. In the short sample I viewed, he did use a very authoritative, documentary kind of tone that I don't think I've had the opportunity to hear much in his other work, if that makes any sense.
At any rate, in the short clip I viewed, I completely agree with your descriptor "disturbing". The fact that there is such violence in the world as this saddens me.
Given MB's high profile just now and the severity of the victim's situation, I am surprised that his involvement was not used to generate more publicity for the documentary.
Although it's clearly an important piece of work I found it overwhelmingly depressing. I feel so conflicted about it. I get that people 'ought' to know this, but I'd rather I hadn't seen it at all. I found the so-called vigilantes so disgusting. I don't think they should even be referred to as vigilantes as the people they hunted hadn't committed any crime. They were just a bunch of yobs, out to hurt innocent people. That there were seemingly so many of them was terrifying.
I do hope that the documentary will be helpful in supporting immigration claims for those gay Russians trying to leave the country and seek asylum elsewhere.
I agree, I am surprised that they didn't try to generate more publicity for it as well. I haven't seen the whole documentary yet, but after the trailer, I think it would be educational to try to watch it at some point in the near future, but I will have to prepare myself. I agree that the state of things right now in Russia regarding this did seem terrifying, from the small excerpt I was able to watch. :(
