Summary: Lex goes undercover in a LuthorCorp Plan and sees what it’s like
to work in his own company.

Chapter 1
Lex Luthor tried so hard not to rip the authentic looking toupee he was
forced to wear. He sat inside the plant manager’s office and tried not to
look at his reflection on the glass window. He couldn’t believe that his mother
of all people chose this punishment for him.
“Lex, I’ve never been so disappointed in you.”
The young billionaire tried not remember how much those words hurt him.
After years of running LuthorCorp in Metropolis, his mother was not impressed
by his lack of concern towards the smaller plants they managed. It was after
an intense board meeting that he decided to close the Smallville plant. Despite
the increase in production in the last five years, Lex knew that the money
spent running the plant would be better invested elsewhere.
His decision wouldn’t have raised an eyebrow from his parents if he kept his
opinion to himself.
“It’s a small hick town in the middle of nowhere that’s known for corn. Why
the hell would I want anything with the name Luthor in that shit of a town?”
The moment he said those words, he knew he made a mistake. His mother
gave him a glare and his father chose wisely to stay silent. So now, as
punishment, he was going to work in the plant as an assistant.
If that wasn’t insulting enough, his mother had made a customized toupee
for him to where. There was a reason why he chose to shave his head,
and the annoying red hair that was like a beacon just made the humiliation
worse. His mother reasoned that due to his escapades, anyone in the plant
would recognize him in an instant.
“Phillip Charlemagne?”
Lex stood up and watched as a smiling man offered his hand. “I’m Gabe Sullivan.”
“Mr. Sullivan.” Lex greeted and Gabe motioned for him to seat.
“Please, call me Gabe.”
Lex nodded his head and Gabe took out a folder from his table. “I’m really
sorry but James Crawford is in a meeting at the moment and he asked me
to look after you for a while. So your application said that you took business
studies in Metropolis University but you dropped out because you couldn’t
cover the costs?”
It took everything in Lex’s power to keep the charade going.
“I’m very sorry to hear that. I always believe that education is the best tool
you can ever arm yourself in life.” Gabe said as he looked at a picture on his
desk before he turned to Lex again. “Well, working as the Regional Director’s
assistant isn’t going to fast track you in the corporate ladder, but I hope that
you can gain some work experience to give yourself a better edge. If you work
hard and you’re made permanent, you can apply for a LuthorCorp scholarship.”
“I look forward to that.”
Gabe grinned as he stood up and handed Lex a different folder. “I know you’ve
seen the plant already, but why don’t you walk with me so I can take you
around and introduce you to people? This place has so many short cuts,
sometimes; it’s easy to get lost.”
“Really?” Lex asked as he tried to sound enthusiastic.
“Yep.” Gabe replied as they walked out of the office areas and into the
facility. “My daughter was eight and she got lost, well... she did it on
purpose, almost gave me a heart attack.”
“She got lost on purpose?”
“Chloe wants to be an investigative journalist. She’s working at the Daily
Planet now while studying Journalism at Metropolis. She said she wanted
to investigate if the plant had a secret level that hides aliens.”
“Aliens?” Lex asked as Gabe laughed.
“She was eight at the time, though it’s still fun to tease her about it every
now and then.”
Lex just nodded and pretended to be interested at Gabe continued to give
him a tour in his own plant.

He’d only met James Crawford once during a meeting and his opinion of the
man didn’t change. James Crawford was a sleazy, annoying and lying son of
a bitch. The moment he saw James, he was afraid for a second that his cover
was blown, but the man looked right past him as if he wasn’t there.
“Did you get all the reports done?”
“Yes Mr. Crawford. The files are at your desk, and this is Phillip Charlemagne.
He’s your new assistant.”
Without even a good bye to Gabe, James walked away and motioned for Lex
to follow him.
“Try not to hang around with Sullivan too much, he’ll turn you into a loser
just like him.”
His words were a surprise to Lex. He didn’t know Gabe that well yet, but
it was obvious that he was well liked by the people they met. “Is he a bad
influence?”
James snorted as he opened the door to his office. “He doesn’t even have
an influence. The idiot’s too worried about all the ‘little people’ in the plant,
and look where he’s at.”
Lex chose not to say anything and looked in surprise as he was handed
a bunch of folders.
“Sort that out and read everything. Prepare a report for me; I have a
meeting with the other regional directors on Tuesday. Make sure it’s
on my desk by Monday.”
Lex just stood there as James sat down on his chair and turned his
laptop on. He pointed at a door to the side. “That’s your office.
Start working.”
“Yes, Mr. Crawford.”
“Make sure you know how to spell, Red.”
Lex stopped and turned around. “Excuse me?”
James just grinned. “You got a problem, Red?”
“My name is Phillip Charlemagne.”
“I know,” James replied smugly. “You’re getting paid to do some work,
so go work before you join the four eyes that got fired before you.
Now shoo.”
Lex took a deep breath as he walked away and tried not listen to the
snorts of laughter coming from his ‘boss.’
If it wasn’t for the bet he made with Julian, he would’ve fired James
on the spot. When his younger brother found out about his punishment,
Julian was more than happy to challenge him to last a whole month
without breaking his cover.
The prize was simple enough, Lex’s Lamborghini for Julian’s share in
Fortress Communications. He didn’t care for his car or for the shares,
but it was his pride that was on the line, and he’d be if he lost this bet.
It was day one, and he had more to go.
